Help! Broken Bewbs and Sippy Cup Refusal

Someone just shoot me now.

My supply is dwindling and I would fucking LOVE LOVE LOVE to be done breastfeeding. But guess who's been refusing sippy cups at school and also on the weekends?

Fuuuunnn. What the fuck do I do? We just had our second meltdown of the day because she was thirsty. She completely refused her sippy, a straw cup or my water bottle.

  • @thegoodpotato‌, I will try that!

Also, tantrums at this age. What do you do? I consider this a tantrum because I offered multiple ways to get fluid and she refused all of them because she would rather have a boob. I let her tantrum while I put away the groceries and just ignored her. This damn refusal!

  • I think ignoring is all you can do at this point.  Although I can see how she would be legit frustrated...  poor you and poor baby!  >:D<

  • Teething is a possibility.

Oh, the doctor said to give watery fruit. So I've been doing watermelon, pineapple and kiwi for lunches. Gave those tonight for dinner to get her more hydrated.

  • The most she drank at DC was 6oz this week. She was really, really fussy most of the week.

I will try the cucumber, thanks!

  • A friend suggested putting some diluted juice in a sippy to see if the sweetness would tempt her. I may try that!

    That couldn't hurt!

I've read that babies 10-12 months should be fed 6-8oz of milk 3-4 times per day. So as crazy as it seems, if she is drinking 6 oz at DC and 6 oz twice from your boobies, she's right on track for what she needs. That doesn help you with ending nursing though.

I am not still nursing, but I have had friends who had kids who were really attached to nursing and refusing the sippy. They stopped nursing all together. They weaned by pumping, but on the child's first birthday eve, they nursed for the last time (you can obviously do it sooner.) It took about two days for the kids of minimal drinking and high fussiness before the kids adapted. I'm sure those two days were rough, but they all got through.

Fwiw, we dropped the bottle by taking it from DC first. B wouldn't drink at DC, because he was waiting to drink from the bottle. He had one day where he only drank 3oz at DC and made up for it at home with the bottle. Now that he only gets sippies, he has no problem drinking from them whenever he is thirsty, because he isn't trying to wait it out and kind of reverse cycle.

I do know that Ben drinks less from sippies when he is going through a developmental milestone and when he's popping a tooth. I hope she starts taking the sippy again soon.

  • @Stina2012‌ That sucks big time. Have you tried a camelbak bottle? Sometimes DD just likes to feel like a big kid so we give her that. I can sympathize on the supply issue and my DD is compensating by eating every 2 hours when we are together.
I hope something works for you! >:D<
