foremilk/hindmilk imbalance?

Anyone deal with this recently? I am self-diagnosing this as my 3 wk old LO has had very stinky but watery green poops the past couple days, has randomly started exhibiting colic-like behavior the past 3 nights, poops during or after every feeding (~12x per day), is VERY gassy and eats every 90-120 minutes around the clock.

We started gas drops today to see if that will work, and I've also started as of today feeding multiple times on one side over the course of several hours instead of switching back and forth for each feeding. I realllllly hope this works!

  • Good luck I can relate to the constant feeding/pooping situation. We are on day 3 of gas drops. Think they are working slightly--hard to tell

I would probably start with just feeding on one side per feeding and see how that goes for a couple days.  unless oversupply is really bad, one sided feeding can get it under control without going to block feeding.

also at 3 weeks there is a growth spurt where they want to eat non-stop and that can cause temporary foremilk hindmilk issues.

Hi @AmyG*‌ - thanks so much for the advice! DD has pretty much eaten every 90 minutes on average since week 1, even before the growth spurt. I generally have been doing one sided feedings the entire time as well - even when offered she would rarely take the second side and would usually nurse the first side for 15 min on average. Is imbalance of foremilk possible without having huge oversupply?
