The whole Mila Kunis "WE are not pregnant" thing is kinda stupid and overblown. Yeah, the woman carries and births the baby...but it's an experience for both partners. Unless the guy is a douche, his life is going to be just as interrupted by parenting, sleepless nights, and poopy diapers once the child arrives--and just as enriched by the tiny new family member.
Would it make people happier if men said "we are expecting?" Because like it or not, in an equal partnership, he's "expecting" just as much as the woman is.
I get the batting for sure. Especially as the pitching speed picks up the older and more accurate they get. I masks seems a bit newer to me. I'm on the fence about them. I realize you want safety but that would drive me insane to wear that. Guess it's a "normal" thing nowdays.
When I played lacrosse, the only safety gear we wore were mouthguards. Now it's helmets with face masks or goggles I'm kinda...meh about that. It was so rare to get hit in the head and outside the rules to do so, so it seems like overkill (and there's the "helmets lead to worse injuries" argument in that, now that you have one, you play more aggressively since you and the other player "can't get hurt"). I get keeping kids safe, but some of the safety standards put into place recently seem like they're solving problems that don't really exist.
We wore mouthguards and "goggles" like this:
I actually got hit in the head quite often. The whole women's lacrosse program was fairly new in our region, and I think everyone was still figuring it out.

DH his brothers, and most of my nephews played football, so, if DS is interested, he probably will too. I'm less worried about it because FIL is still a football coach and DH has coached, so he knows what to look for to make sure helmets are on properly, hits are being taught correctly, and the new "Heads Up" rules are being followed.
DD is not coordinated at all. I hope to get her into dance just to build on her physical skills like balance and get her moving her body. She is pretty lazy, always has been, so I'm not sure if she will take to any sports. I wouldn't discourage any though.
I am going to enforce one thing at a time though. The extracurricular activity schedules for some of these kids sports seem brutal.
This isn't an UO (I hope) but had to share. I just emailed this to DH in case he was looking for birthday gift ideas for me, but I told him it had to come with a pic of shirtless Zac making the board.
My friend taught me how to make skateboards. Stay tuned to find out how you can win one & help an incredible charity. pic.twitter.com/FzX9BDoA0V
Soccer is a lot more fun in person than on TV to watch. I hated it until my college was huge in it and had a lot of hot British and Scottish boys to watch.
I was going to say this. Plus the soccer boys in my high school were the cutest. I don't care about the World Cup but I would love for one of my kids to play soccer in the long run.

I got hit once--and yeah, it was from a player from a newer team that played really aggressively and really badly. Accidental check to the face--not fun, but not really dangerous, either because she wasn't hitting that hard. Because their team sucked. Did I say that out loud?
What I really could have used were protective gloves. Damn, accidental checks to the fingers HURT, especially in the cold. They're more common now, I think. No one wore them when I played.

I thought it was pretty obvious that it was satire and she was being funny, not actually serious.
People are taking it seriously, though. My FB feed is blowing up with people posting "OMG, I've always thought this." "Thanks for saying this!" kind of stuff.

My mom made me dance as a kid so I could learn how to manage my gangly, growing non-stop, body. It really helped me learn some grace even if I hated it. I think all kids should take some kind of dance class.

UO: There is not reason to call someone after 9:30 p.m. at night unless you are dying.
Brought to you by my mom who called me at 9:30 last night to ask me for a grocery list for vacation, which is a month away. Just no.
Amen! My DH owns his own tourism business and last night, a woman called wanting to book a spot on a tour and it was 10:05. What?? No.
I feel like 10 pm is the cut-off for me, but I would NEVER call someone for anything business related after regular work hours, unless there was something on their advertising that said that was acceptable! So weird.
Speaking of sports, my UO is I don't want DD playing softball. Yuck. I think I'll die if she wants to play.
Why? No snark, just curious. Why's it's yucky?
It's like baseball. Which I find so boring. There are so many games. It's not a once a week sport. And I'm such a girly girl, softball just seems so tomboyish to me.
I guess that's why I love it. It's tomboyish. But there were a ton of girly girls that played softball too (see: Pitchers ))
LL we live 1 block from the major softball field in town. Now all the girls on the in-field have masks they wear that are similar to a catching mask. Is this popular where you live or have you noticed? The probability of getting popped in the chops is a lot smaller in that age group. I find it dumb. Maybe I'll change my tune if I have a girl who plays. Dental work is expensive.
When I was in HS, they were just introducing the masks. My senior year of HS they made it mandatory that batting helmets had masks, there's a shit ton of foul balls that can come back up in your face because of the spin of the pitch.
But I would never wear one while fielding. I've seen some 3rd/1st basemen and pitchers wear it just because of the velocity of a line drive coming at them, they'd have no reaction time to move and I've seen some gnarly hits to the face/head (one girl on my team line drive back into the pitcher's forehead and it hit off her head and went over the backstop...the hitter had some serious meat and power to her swing, obviously).
DH's boss's daughter plays high school softball. She is the pitcher and a few weeks ago has hit by the ball and it fractured her skull. She was out cold for a long time. Scary stuff.
I think the idea is to get them wearing them and used to them at a young age so it's not such a tough transition and doesn't affect their line of vision when they get older. I would've never been able to put one of those masks on and play second base.
Similar to this, when watching the X-Games last weekend I found it in very poor taste for them to let the skateboarders go helmetless. Be a good example for the kids. Make wearing a helmet cool. Blah.
I disagree with all of you. Swimmers are the hottest. Hands down.
I swam through school, and played rugby and softball. DH played all kinds of sports but is really into baseball and softball. He's on a guys softball team right now, and it's pretty hardcore for a bunch of old guys.
I know that DH would be disappointed if A didn't love baseball as much as he does, and I would love for him to swim too. That said, I want him to pursue whatever he has interest in. I know that whatever he does, I will all of a sudden become the biggest fan of said extracurricular activity. Chess Club, Rah Rah Rah!!!
I dated mostly swimmers because I was a swimmer. I agree with the hot bods but I have seen them all puking in the gutter which is not cute.

I play second base, too and cannot imagine putting one of those on while fielding after playing for so many years without it. I think it's a good idea to make them wear them young to avoid the difficult transition. I think for girls who play seriously and not just as a fun thing to do it can really screw up their game!

Yep, and men are expecting, they aren't pregnant. I don't care either way what people say but I know for sure that DH wasn't getting up every 2 hours when I was pregnant like I was.
My UO is that I don't know what you guys are thinking in the sports department. How was basketball only barely mentioned ONE time as a potential sport for their kids?
We have Mason at the hoop every night shooting....he's a natural, naturally!
DD is in dance right now. She was taking gymnastics and fail off the uneven bars and WILL NOT go back. It makes me sad. She's pretty fragile so I can't see her getting in to sports. We will definitely try though!

yeah, same thing happened when she got hit, she fell straight to the ground and everyone froze. Like, do you still run to first base? Everyone just stood there for a solid 30 seconds in shock before anyone reacted to her or the game. I've taken laces to the face but luckily it just left lace prints, no lasting damage.
I pitched through high school. I took a few line drives to the gut, but only one to the face. Luckily, I already had my glove up (this particular girl had a history of aiming for pitchers) and just took the impact of the glove/ball combo to my face. The glove difinitely kept me from getting knocked out.
I would never have been able to play wearing a mask. I used to throw my damn hat off just to see where the ball was going.

I don't care what sports my girls want to play. I'm really not a fan of any sport, and neither is DH, though we enjoy being athletic and playing sports, and will definitely watch our girls' games.
I think the sexiest men are divers, gymnasts, and rowers... those sports just seem to do great things to a man's body
I read this as DRIVERS and started thinking about how hot our new UPS guy is. Seriously. He's from Italy. He's gorgeous. The first day he came to the house, DH answered the door and was like "whoa, you're new." It was hilarious. He's also super nice and is working on his English, so everytime we see him now he updates me or DH on what new things he's been hearing.

Our mail man is gorgeous too. I have no problem skipping to the mailbox like a 7 year old when he comes driving down the street.
I haven't caught up, but I was excited that I had one this week. Not getting into the desertion part (not cool) because that is a whole other ball of wax. However, I think the Bergdahl exchange was smart on some levels that aren't being discussed. Obama promised to close Gitmo, but found resistance and the fact that nobody wanted to allow the prisoners into their state. He managed to get rid of 5 of them with the exchange. I think that was well played.

I was pushed into basketball because I was athletic and tall. Sadly, I have no hand eye coordination so I stuck with swimming and track.

I ultimately quit because I am not very fast and I had coaches that told me to just run faster, instead of working on their offense to take the time for me to set up. I stuck to softball instead and picked up non-sport activities in the winter to take up my time.

My close friend's DH is 6'8" and he played the trumpet. He has absolutely no desire for athletics. He and my DH joke all the time because my DH is 6' and wished his entire life for some extra inches. DH tells friend's DH that he wasted all that height!

Five down, how many to go, lol?
My issues with the exchange had purely to do with the lack of notification to Congress. I'm kind of a stickler for the president following the laws he's pledged to uphold. I get that they're claiming it was an "emergency" but we are a nation of laws--follow them or change them. Which I realize is a fundamental UO in and of itself--that our executive leader should do the *legal* thing, even if s/he thinks it's the *wrong* thing. That's what s/he was elected to do--execute the laws of the nation.
I want DD and DS to play any sports they'd like. (I'm not sure how I feel about Hockey, but we'll cross that path if/when we get to it).
H played football, baseball and squash and I play softball. I wish I'd played more sports, but I played the piano for a few years. I hope my children get my Sister's athleticism or H's, because they'll play all sports. My sister played softball, basketball, soccer and even a year of hockey. She still plays on a soccer league now and then.

I want my kids to be active in sports because I wasn't past about 8th grade and I felt left out a lot. I'm a pretty athletic (build-wise) person but I don't have a competitive bone in my body. I just don't give a shit about winning or being better.
I don't find athletic bodies attractive nor do I find thin men attractive either.
DH is a bigger guy but has some muscle. I don't prefer my guys super skinny and I want height. I've always preferred them to be taller than me (I'm 5'7"). That being said a guy with a nice ass and broad shoulder, yum!

I have the world's longest fingers - was called ET fingers growing up, and my whole life people were like "AND YOU DON'T PLAY PIANO???" My fingers were wasted.
My DH is big. He is solid. At 6' right now he is 295lbs. When we started dating he was about 275 which was good on him he had a small belly but hardly any fat. When he left basic training with no fat he was 245. Most 6' mean are what? 185 or so? No thanks.
Over thin yes. Built, big, and athletic sure.

My DH is almost the same. He's 6'1 and I believe 275ish. He could stand to lose some of his belly, but hey, so could I. :-) DH is still pretty built from all of the crap he does at work when he's not in the lab.
