TTC after 35

Weekly Check In - (6/11/14)

This check in is for anyone on this board to participate in and will occur every Wednesday. If you are new here and haven't made a separate intro on the main board please do so before checking in so we can "meet" you!  It's easy to do just click the new discussion button in the top right and post away.

For the 40+ers out there, I've decided to discontinue the Thursday ladies over 40 check-in so we can have all posts together on one thread.  Many were posting in both places so I just feel like it makes better sense to go back to keeping everyone together.  However, I've added a few things I loved from the 40+ check in (shout out and weekly vent) as optional components (:

Also, just a reminder that we've got a new grad check-in on the board.  So happy that we'll have a place for our graduates to return to so they don't have to completely leave us.  Thanks to @tlc35 for being the leader.

1. Your Name or Screen Name (not full names) and State you are from.

2. How long have you been TTC? Are you TTC #1,#2,#3, etc.?

3. What are you doing this cycle? Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist (RE)? If so, what stage are you in? Charting/temping? Testing? Medicated cycles? IUI? IVF? DE?

4. Where are you in your cycle? (Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?

5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)

Bonus Round (optional):
  • Shout Out -  Want to give a special shout out this week to someone from our board (or even a non-bumpie if applicable)? Just put their screen name and a little message.

  • Weekly Vent - Go ahead, vent on one thing that is really irking you this week, promise you will feel better after.

QOTW:  What is your favorite comfort food?

    1. Your Name or Screen Name (not full names) and State you are from.  Kelley in Georgia

    2. How long have you been TTC? Are you TTC #1,#2,#3, etc.? 2nd cycle ttc 6, 2nd for my dh

    3. What are you doing this cycle? Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist (RE)? If so, what stage are you in? Charting/temping? Testing? Medicated cycles? IUI? IVF? DE? charting cp, cf, started temping but I think the new therm. I broke is messing up!  dang

    4. Where are you in your cycle? (Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww? I'm 6 dpo... I might *test Sunday just bc it's Father's Day but it would be very surprising to get a + first bc we only had intercourse once during best fertile days and I've never tested +

    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc) Ok, just trying to get used to temping/charting again without reading into every tiny thing.  Aggravated about the thermometer, waste of $.

Shout Out - All the recent grads!!!  When I was ttc last time very few women were conceiving and it was disheartening... now I just feel hopeful and so excited for the other ladies!

QOTW: What is your favorite comfort food?   Southern favorites: Fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, green beans =yummy!

    edited to add ttc info

  • 1. PrivateOne - CT

    2. #1 since 2009, with RE since 2012

    3. IVF #3

    4. ER was yesterday.  We retrieved 8 eggs and this afternoon we will receive our fert report.  We are really leaning towards banking again and doing another retrieval to get more.  But first we'll see what they report back to us on egg maturity and fertilization.

    5. I felt really good on this new protocol and feel I had a very good response.  Also, feel I can do it again so I can get more eggs out of my ovaries.  All these happy feelings may come crushing down when I get the actual results today, but for now I'm happy.

Shout Out -  @thirtyninetoforty, so proud and excited for you for going after what you want in life.  Though I'm sure it is not easy at times to be going it alone, but I'm sure it will be so worth it in the end.

Weekly Vent - Saw my sister over the weekend and she was in a pissy mood like she was unhappy with me.  I had to leave her daughters ballet recital a little early because of another commitment.  That is I'm sure what she is annoyed at.  As well, she has no idea I was in the midst of cycling again and I just wanted to tell her leave me the f alone you have no idea what I'm going through.  But I didn't and now I'm sure I'll have to smooth out her ruffled feathers.  Why can't you ladies be my sisters, lol.

QOTW: Yesterday to treat myself after ER I had one of my favorite comfort foods that were frozen in my freezer waiting for me. My MIL makes these little appetizers made out of mashed yuca (like a potato) with cheese stuffed inside which are then deep fried. She had made me some awhile back and I froze a bunch for a later date.  Sooooo goooood, but soooooo bad for me.

    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)
I am all over the place.  Anxious but hopeful.  I'm worried that I'm too hopeful and will be crushed by a bfn.

    3. Just charting for the time being.
    4. Well, I am in the 2WW, CD27 and I am either 13 or 11 DPO because I'm not sure exactly when I O'd this month. I've tested on CD days 22, 24, and 25 and I'm holdingout until tomorrow to test on CD28 which will be my official test to determine if I was successful or not. I've been feeling very light cramps and have totally psyched myself out to thinking that it's a symptom of a BFP and not a symptom of overeating or AF's arrival.

    5. I'm anxious. I just want to know already if I am successful or not so I can focus on next months schedule.

    Bonus Round (optional):
    • Shout Out -  @tatumami, Just sending some love your way. Hope you're doing well!

    • Weekly Vent - I'm irked at my workplace bathroom situation. lol We have a bathroom on our floor with like 4 stalls and 99.9999% of the time when I go in there, I am alone. (I can't poop with other people around) for the past week, every time an "opportunity" has risen, I go in there and like not a minute later someone walks in, so i have to come back later to do what initially intended to do. lol There you have it. You all know about my poop fears.

QOTW:  What is your favorite comfort food?
Hands down, good homemade mac n cheese. Bonus points for bacon in it and/or shrimp or lobster mac n cheese.

Their sweet dog died about a month ago and they are getting a new one that was pretty much just born. She's definitely done having kiddos but at first glance it startled me.

Our firm has been gracious enough to keep one of those in each stall. I usually spray before, during and after, lol just in case someone walks in during an inopportune moment. Still awkward IMO.

  • Here is my vent. My boss just said we are going to Nantucket in August.

Hard job right? Haha. Even though I bitch every time we go (need to bring xanax with me) I LOVE it there. Would never be able to afford going. Problem is they are all snobby (guests that stay with us) and my wardrobe sucks right now especially what they wear and I hate shopping and plus not like I have all this extra $ on hand. Guess I really need to buckle down and start eating healthier.

One year I posted on here every other day to complain about these wackos lol. That was my saving grace!! Blah....

I just completed a medicated cycle (Gonal F and Ovidril) for an IUI on 6/6. Also continuing acupuncture treatments and taking Chinese herbs and natural supplements.
    I'm 4DPO.
I do not feel good about this cycle. the FW came and went to quickly and my DH and I couldn't get the timing down for BD. Plus, the screw-up with the first IUI being cancelled really threw us off. I continue to hope and pray. If this cycle doesn't work, I really should move on to IVF and find a new RE.
Big shout out to all of you amazing and supportive women on this board. You're the best!!
No additional vents than the one I mentioned above.

@Kelley72, good luck in the 2WW--you never know!
@PrivateOne, FX for a fabulous fert report today!
@SillySally24, hoping AF gets it together and shows up soon.
@tlc35, hope the rest of the 2WW goes by quickly--and, of course, that you get your bfp!
@mamabear904, hope your test tomorrow is good news
@beckyp005, I have everything it's possible to cross crossed for your beta
@lesliem0901, good luck!  I hope you're pleasantly surprised in a week or so.

    1. Your Name or Screen Name (not full names) and State you are from.
    Davie813, Chicago

    2. How long have you been TTC? Are you TTC #1,#2,#3, etc.?
    TTC #2, 6th cycle

    3. What are you doing this cycle? Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist (RE)? If so, what stage are you in? Charting/temping? Testing? Medicated cycles? IUI? IVF? DE?
Charting, temperature, acupuncture, too many supplements.  When AF comes, DH and I are heading off the get the last tests we need for RE referral.

    4. Where are you in your cycle? (Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?
10 dpo.  If my temperature looks promising, I'll test Friday.  Otherwise, feh.  Why bother?

    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)
Not hopeful.  My chart had been looking pretty good until my temp plummeted yesterday.  It partially recovered today, but I think that's more about being up until 3:30 with DD than anything else.  And I'm having some ominous cramps.

    Bonus Round (optional):
    • Shout Out -  Want to give a special shout out this week to someone from our board (or even a non-bumpie if applicable)? Just put their screen name and a little message.
    • @lesliem0901, I am so sorry about your IUI situation last week.  That is just not right!  FX this is your month anyway!
    • Weekly Vent - Go ahead, vent on one thing that is really irking you this week, promise you will feel better after.
    • Honestly, I've been in a completely terrible mood the past couple of days (pms?)  and absolutely everything is getting on my nerves.

QOTW:  What is your favorite comfort food?
My go-to meal when things are really bad is red wine and a fried egg sandwich.  Yes, that's bizarre.

    3. What are you doing this cycle?
Just counting cycle days for now. The plan changes next month if we still have a BFN

    4. Where are you in your cycle? (Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?

    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)
Anxious. Debating if this is really the right time

QOTW:  What is your favorite comfort food?
Eh, we're doing a no-carb diet right now. Any sort of carbs are AWESOME. Seriously, I would kill for a plate of pasta right now.

I'm sorry that I can't give shout-outs to everyone today. Know that I support all of you ladies!

    1. URMySunshine77 from Northern California

    2. TTC#2 for three months

    3. Temping, charting, PNV, some acupuncture

    4. CD6. My period just ended.

    5. I do not feel hopeful because DH will be on travel during my usual ovulation day, CD17. Some of you may have seen my thread, but my LP extended last month, so FF extended my expected O day to CD19. DH will be back that morning, but I'm not convinced that I will O later than usual.

Vent: I'm just so angry that we might miss a month because of DH's fun trip even though I've known about the trip for a year. He'll be gone CD10-CD18. There is no way to reschedule.

I want to shout out to @lgsdesigner for being such a positive and helpful new contributor.

QOTW:  My favorite comfort foods would have to be pizza and mashed potatoes with cheese and sour cream. A SF pizzeria called "Escape from NY Pizza" has a great pie with pesto, sliced potatoes, and cloves of baked garlic. It is to die for.

I am a little scared to go down this road again. Hence the "NTNP" as if I don't "try" I can't get myself too worked up (ha!). QOTW: my favorite comfort food when sick is grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. My favorite general comfort food is Tex-Mex.

Well after all that planning, DH has important meetings and cannot miss per his work, any time in July, so now we cannot have our fresh IVF/ICSI #4 in July :(

I am really sad about this.  We need a fresh PESA at ER, I need that 10% higher success rate it could give us so using frozen sperm not at ER is not an option.

So DH says maybe August or November, since we have to plan being out of state and time off of work and babysitting.

    BLAH :(

I am also reconsidering speaking to CCRM again since I like the thought of transferring only viable embryos after CCS testing.  It is the cost that scares me as well as the issue that our embryos never make it to day 5 and the travel and distance.

    Wishing everyone well.

    Bonus Round (optional):
    • Shout Out -  @soontobeshrader...I am sending good vibes to help you lose those last few pounds.  I know how difficult it is.  I LOVE FOOD and honestly, what works best for me is when I am so busy at work...I've lost more weight this past month that the entire year!

    • Weekly Vent - I have one employee who is good at her job but she is one miserable bitch!  I can't imaging waking up everyday so miserable!  I will do a happy dance the day she turns in her two week notice (I'm very hopeful she's looking!).  This is bad, I know, but seriously, she is MISERABLE!

    Fourth IUI Feb 2015, Femara + Follistim + Trigger = C/P :(

  • @soontobeshrader - loosing weight is so hard. Adding the pressure that you must for your IUI must make it even that more difficult.  Does your insurance cover a nutritionist who may be able to help you meet your goals? I wish you all the best. I know you can do it. There is something so great to be fighting for.

For all those playing the waiting game - for reports, for AF to show up, for a reasonable day to test - good luck!

@BeckyP005 - I can only imagine how nervous you are.  Fingers and toes crossed for the 17th!

    1. Cara in FL

    2. TTC #2 for 1 1/2 years

    3. This is a natural cycle with temping and acupuncture.  We are also starting on the IVF prereqs.

    4. I'm in the middle of the 2ww. I'm not exactly sure when I ovulated.  FF says one thing; I think a day or two later.  My acupuncturist agrees with me.  No phantom symptoms, not even the tender to the touch breasts I usually have the second half of my cycle.  (I do have this stabbing pain pretty regularly in my breasts, though.  Its weird.)

    5. Weirdly enough, I started off this cycle feeling hopeful for no apparent reason.  We timed things pretty well and my temps are still high (approx 7 dpo), so that's good.  But, frankly, it seems unlikely that lightning would strike twice and we'd get pregnant again on an unmedicated cycle.

    Bonus Round (optional):
    • Shout Out -  @Fredifer1115, my new IVF buddy!  I'm looking forward to having someone moving through at basically the same pace to share with.

    • Weekly Vent - My daughter has been tired and unreasonable, and I am over it.  I'm seriously considering keeping her home from art camp for some extra rest.

QOTW:  What is your favorite comfort food? Pasta with red sauce or a peanutbutter and banana sandwich, depending on my mood.
  • Hi everyone
Doing this on my iPhone while we just DTD. :)
    I am from Brooklyn ny
TTC1 since summer 2013 and counting the months the timing was right this is cycle 5.

Temping charting CM and cervix feeling, acupuncture, ferity tea, Arvigo maya abdominal massage. Cut out ice cream mostly and drinking a lot. I took basic robitissen a few days before O.

Today is cd22 or possibly 2dpo. I am in a different time zone and working crazy hours plus drinking wine with coworkers so my temp went up drastically but I can't tell if it really did.
Luckily my DH is with me on this biz trip yay!

Feeling good bc we got the timing right.

Shoutout to @tatumami I hope the gallbladder surgery recovery is getting easier. I feel like we bonded having that one cycle buddy together. ;)

Vent is my boss was laid off today in a restructuring plan!!!!!!! I'm now on vacation till Monday so when I go back I will be reporting to someone in London! Not sure how it's going to be but I liked my boss a lot. I feel awful for her.

Love you ladies! Great organization on the posts by the way. Digging the grad posts. :)
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April

  • @KirstenAlecia - so sorry things have been rough for you. Philly is not a bad town, though, if you do move. And while it certainly is colder than Cali., the winters are not as extreme as you might imagine (I grew up there.) It's a very down to earth, blue collar city, so you should be able to meet people fairly easily, although I realize it's no substitute for family. And you can't beat the cheesesteaks and soft pretzels! Whatever happens with you and DH, I wish you the best.

    5. How do you feel about this cycle?
Feeling like we had our best shot this month. FF says I O'd last fri (DTD so hopefully we are covered) and had my IUI last Saturday. I think I want to move onto IVF if this didn't work, but I'm hopeful this could have happened.

Shout out: @kristenAlecia I understand about the move thing. MH just put in for a transfer and if he gets it we will be going to denver. Scary!

Vent: My boss, can't stand her! She does these stupid power trips, micro manages me and it drives me nuts. I think I'm going to start looking for a new job. I've had enough.

    QOTW:
Comfort dinner food ~~soup from this hole in the wall soup place. It always makes me think of Seinfeld, and the soup is to die for!!! We nickname him "the soup Nazi", but he's actually wicked sweet!
  • 1. Your Name or Screen Name (not full names) and State you are from.
    Ciara from Indiana
    2. How long have you been TTC? Are you TTC #1,#2,#3, etc.?
    TTC #1 since 11/13
    3. What are you doing this cycle? Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist (RE)? If so, what stage are you in? Charting/temping? Testing? Medicated cycles? IUI? IVF? DE?
Went to a doctor.  Talked about "the plan".  Will be getting blood work done next cycle.  DH bought one of those at home sperm tests and the number is there.  It was kind of funny when we did the test. Then I told the doc and she has never heard of such tests (lol).  Apparently it's cheaper to just get it done at the clinic!  But it wasn't about the cost... ;)
    4. Where are you in your cycle? (Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?
Waiting to O (on Sunday), but DH is on a "guys weekend", so we're missing the 2 days before playtime :(
    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)
    Meh, see above.
