Trouble TTC

back after surgery!

Hi ladies!

Well, last Wednesday I went in for for my lap/hysteroscopy and salpingectomy and came out with some interesting news. Turns out that my right tube that we thought was blocked and had really bad hydrosalpinx to the point where it needed to be removed was not nearly as bad as the HSG showed. She said that they went in and found some endometrosis and scare tissue instead, but both tubes were clear and got to stay! They removed the endo and scar tissue as best as possible and I got to see some pictures but I was so groggy I don't remember much else. I am thrilled that they didn't have to take either tube and were just able to do a clean up in there. My uterus looks good per the hysteroscopy too so I am feeling very lucky.

The recovery wasn't too bad! I had quite a bit of pain from the hysteroscopy the day of and after the surgery so that was not enjoyable but the bleeding wasn't bad so I can't complain too much. I only ended up having the incision in my belly button and on my left side at the bikini line only being one stitch each which is great. I was sore but never had to take the heavy duty pain killers they perscribed and felt pretty good by the weekend.

Has anybody else come out of something like this with an endo. finding? I don't know much about it at all and have just started researching it. It was never a thought before so I'm not sure what it all means interms of where we go from here!

We have an appointment on Friday so we will see what they say... They all seemed to think that we would be able to have some luck hopefully after getting that all cleaned out so hopefully we just have the motility and shape sperm issue going forward. Fingers crossed!

Trying to have baby #1 since April 2013

DH SA March,May 2014 - Low motility and shape issues. On vitamins per RE to help

Me testing April 3, 2014 - FSH and LH good, HSG showed blocked right tube

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

is MFI influenced. Trying naturally until decision... Repeat SA  in September. Aiming for IUI #1 November 2014.

  • Congrats! You must be overjoyed. That's great news. Glad the recovery has been relatively smooth for you, too.

Good luck with your consult. I wonder if RE still feels a need to go to IVF immediately due to MFI, or if this changes the game plan??

  • I went in for what they thought was hydro as well, and as you can see from my siggy they found adhesions and endo. My tubes were twisted and stuck to other organs but they said they "looked good." I was told to try on our own for several months and then move to treatments. However, after meeting with two different RE's that both suggested IVF, we have decided to take that route based on statistics. Since we have been unsuccessful for 17 months, and everything else is perfect, it is more than likely that my tubes are not functioning. We decided to invest in IVF rather than spend the money on IUIs and injectibles....again, based on the odds. It's a tough choice! That's great news you were able to keep your tubes! Good luck!

Our Re found a little unexpected endo during my lap. She cleaned it out, and I think it was so minor it's not really considered to be part of our dx. The endo is part of why she prescribed femara instead of clomid, since the former can be used to treat endo as well as help follicle production.

  • Thank you all so much for the kind words and support!

I am really happy with the outcome of everything and look forward to seeing what they suggest now... I'm hoping that we can take a different route than IVF but know that it may still be our best shot. I will let you all know what Friday's appointment brings!
