So LOs doctor just called and said that we needed to reschedule our appointment to the next available opening which is July 7th! This would make her 5 months old and a full month behind her 4 month vaccines. The receptionist tried to tell me that it's not that big of a deal in reference to the vaccines as long as she gets them. I'm thinking it is a big deal 1- because I'm thinking this throws her 6 month vaccines back as well as all others in the future. 2- I feel like this makes her susceptible and 3- there's a schedule for a reason, right?
The receptionist said that she would talk to the doctor and see what could be done. I asked if there was another doctor in the office we could see, the answer was no, they have no availability. I then asked to be put on the list in case someone calls to cancel, that we'd be put in that spot.
My question is, is it really not a big deal if her vaccines get pushed back by almost a month?
Update- Well that was fast, someone already cancelled for the following week when we were originally supposed to go with another doctor in the office.
To answer a few replies quickly. Our doctor was going to be out of the office that day and I requested any of the doctors on any day and time. I'm out on Maternity leave until at least February, (Canadian girl here) so we're really flexible.
Re: Vaccine delay- NOT a debate -Update
We're in that boat, she turned 4 months on Sunday and won't receive her 4 month vaccines until June 27. Not ideal, but with the way the dosing schedule worked out along with our schedules, it's what we had to do.
I'm not super worried about the immunity/susceptibility aspect since it's just continued doses of things she's already received. And yes, it will push back our 6 month vaccines as well, but then it won't matter after that since we don't need to worry about dose spacing anymore.

Re: PPs question about scheduling, I know my Drs have a set number of well-visit appointments per day and the remaining time is left for emergency/urgent scheduling for sick kids. So it's not necessarily that there is zero appointments, just the time available is reserved for those last minute needs.
Why are they canceling her original appointment though? Was there some sort of emergency I'm guessing?
You are right that it will push back 6m vaccines as well. My Drs office wasn't terribly concerned about it. Something else to keep in mind, they start to get protection after the first set so it's not like LO has zero immunity at this point.
I'm glad this was resolved. I usually make my next well baby visit on the day of the prior one (so I make the 4 month appt. at the 2 month appt.), so I know it's in the calendar. My office books 3 months ahead, so this works well for all the appointments at the beginning.
