Help me find something to make for my neighborhood block party

So my neighborhood does a block party every weekend each summer and everyone brings something. I've been to a couple already and feel like an ass because I haven't brought or made anything. That needs to change. Most people do store bought cookies, ice cream (kids are welcome), cheese and crackers, chips, and of course beer and wine. Does anyone have any recipes to share that are quick and kid and adult friendly?

  • Thanks @ScoutNumbers05! Those are all great suggestions :)

  • We're going to one and I'll be spying this thread for ideas.

I was thinking of making either of the following to go along with the hot dogs they're serving:

    Potato salad

    Pasta salad

    Stuffed mushrooms

Baked sweet potatoes or red roasted potatoes

    Corn on the cob

    Baked string beans with almonds

I really want to have a signature dish so I don't have to think about it.

  • Homemade pizza rolls....can of pizza crust, rolled out, pepperoni, cheese, sun dried tomatoes &/or pretty much anything else, then roll it up like a burrito & bake it (usually have to bake it a little longer than the can calls for to get the center done). Once it's cool cut it long ways, then sideways to make smaller portions. Anyways a crowd favorite & we experiment with new stuff all the time!

Also we put pizza sauce on the side for a less mess approach.

I make the world's best chocolate chip cookies, so that's what I would make.

Also, buffalo chicken dip is my all time favorite appetizer.

Fruit skewers or watermelon on a stick are easy. You can fill up some water balloons ahead of time for the kids and pull them  in a wagon.

This walnut corn dip is always a hit too.

  • Can I ask the point of the stick @KlondikeBar‌? Does the juice not drip as much or something? Because watermelon was made to hold by the rind, right?
  • My go-to is usually bruschetta for an appetizer or strawberry shortcake kabobs for dessert. Here's a link to the kabobs:

  • Your hands don't get all sticky @smootchy. I don't do it at home, but it's nice for certain situations. I'm a pto volunteer baker/food supplier. We sent these in for the teachers along with baked goods. And it looks cute;)
