I don't have an oversupply, I don't think, but do have a fast letdown. We nurse on an angle (latch on like normal, cross cradle hold, then lean back) so baby has to suck upward. That and a cold compress after feeding when I feel like I'm getting engorged has been enough to solve our issues.
"Fixing" it will entirely be strategies you can do while nursing to make it more manageable/comfortable while your are breastfeeding so you don't end up covered in milk (it's so annoying) and LO doesn't end up screaming in frustration - also covered in milk.
I have found using a nipple shield is the easiest way to deal with it - this is good to BF in public/out of the house. For at home nursing, working on a perfect latch goes a long way. Once your baby can get a good, deep latch they can better handle the flow of your milk, instead of coughing and choking on it. Nursing against gravity has really helped at night too, to slow him down and stop the huge spit-ups.
Sorry it turned into a post and run, life of newborn and toddler sucks sometimes. I ended up going and talking to the pedi. DS2 is suffering in that he acts like my boobs is trying to kill him, crazy gassy and spits up every time he eats. The pedi confirmed that is most likely the culprit and so I am to try block feeding and see if it fixes it.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
I have this problem in the right boob only. My doula recommended side-lying and so far it's helping him keep from sputtering and rejecting it. I still have to keep a burb rag nearby to cover the breast if he pulls off to burp to avoid it spraying him in the face.
