City moms? Need suggestions!

Hi! Hoping to find out if there are any other city moms? I've been looking for blogs or recommendations for products for moms with less space but I haven't found anything. Suggestions are greatly appreciated! Mostly I'm trying to figure out a great city stroller/car seat and the absolute must haves (we don't have room for all the extras!). Thanks!!

www.lucieslist.com is a great site with lots of reviews and recommendations on pretty much everything you will need or want for baby. I'm pretty sure the lady who writes it is a city mom because she talks about taking taxi's and walking up steps to her apt.

I am interested in this too! We have a small apartment in downtown DC. We technically have a second bedroom, but we would like to keep it as an office for as long as possible. I second Lucie's List. Some of my favorite car seat stroller combos right now are the Valco Snap (only 12 lbs) with the Chicco or Cybex car seats (there are others and adaptors for them), Chicco Liteway Plus with the Keyfit, or the Safety 1st UniLite Universal Umbrella Stroller with the onBoard 35 air. I know a lot of people like the B-Safe/B-Agile combo and the City Mini but those strollers are close to 20 lbs! My double weighs slightly more than those! My dad lives in DC so I'm big into the smaller strollers that are lighter, take up less space, and easier to use. I like the new Chicco and Safety 1st strollers umbrella options because I probably would have done one of those vs the Snap N Go if they were available when I had DS1. One less stroller.

Also - city moms without a car - have you thought about the car seat situation? We probably rent a car once a month, so we might need one, but ideally, I would like to go as cheap and small as possible.

I've been thinking about that, too. We don't have a car, but will take a cab every once in a while. I'm not sure what the laws are regarding car seats in those situations.

You will notice there are convertible seats like the Combi Corroco, Cosco Scenera, and the Safety 1st onSide air that can be used with newborns. In your situation it might be better to just skip the infant seat (& save space and money) since you use it so little and look at a stroller like the Valco Snap that is newborn rated without a car seat. Uppababy also has some nice stroller options for newborns.

I honestly didn't use our changing table longer than a month. We just change him on the floor our couch. If its a poop we either put a travel change mat, or a towel down. But the changing table we have is a dresser one, so it was duel purpose.

We used a pack and play up until he grew out of the basinet part. Then we had to move him to his crib because I can't reach the bottom of the play pen to lay him down. I'm too short.

As far as strollers and car seats it depends how long you want to be able to use the stroller. They make strollers that are basically just a free that the car seat can click onto. But they are useless after they grow out of the infant seat. There are some travel systems that have a smaller stroller, and some strollers that you can buy attachments for to be able to use a car seat with. It just depends on what you want.

I have this IKEA change table and love it, easy to move around in the house. Had it set up in my bedroom for early baby days, moved to his bedroom later, sometimes downstairs if necessary.. etc. Plus I love how LO sits in it, it's like a hammock and it's very hard for him to roll off (pre-6 months)

You can ask for a cab to bring a car seat if you are calling for your cab, can't guarentee it's super clean, but better to be safe than clean

also rental car places offer car seats as well

You guys! They make movement monitors that set off an alarm if the baby isn't breathing! And they have one that clips on the baby! What a great idea!

@12chachacha‌ we have s movement crib monitor. It works pretty good. I suggest if you get one that you get one with a double sensor mat.

Baby bargains book is another great resource for baby things. Rock n play sleepers are awesome for small spaces (folds flat and light). We have the city mini stroller and it's awesome. The easy fold is the best part. Pack n plays are awesome, and great for newborns, corralling later and used as a crib when traveling.

@abwz612 I dont live in the city and I dont have any current stroller/carseat suggestions but I have a friend who lives in NY and she spent a lot of time researching baby products for her small apartment. She swears by this bathtub: https://www.booninc.com/products/Naked/610

and loves that its collapsible so it doesn't take over her place like some baby stuff can.

You don't really need a baby bathtub, my son had been bathed in the shower since just a few weeks, originally we used the sink sized tub from the hospital and then started bringing him in the shower. It might help that we have a bench in our shower. Our house does not have a tub so we really didn't have much of an option.

As for bouncers and swings, I'd say something is necessary if you're going to take a shower it do dishes etc, I guess you could always put lo in their crib but it's nice to be able to see them when you're multi tasking

Wow awesome replies everyone! I live in a small one bedroom with my husband and for the last week I've woken up stressing about where we will put everything. I've caught myself nagging my husband on several occasions that we need to clean out any junk we don't need. I love the foldable changing table! Im hoping once we purge unwanted stuff we will have more storage room...i had completely forgotten a stroller and any play stuff...
