I too hail from Illinois, but I'm more West Central Illinois. I also find it adorable that fellow Illinois folk just automatically relate themselves by how far they are from Chicago. (I'm 4 hours-ish..) Probably closest to @biokitty42 since she mentioned the Peoria area.

My favorite restaurant is called Low Country Backyard. It gets a huge line/wait at dinner time and they don't take reservations, so get there early (430). www.hhbackyard.com

The BEST ice cream is at Pino Gelato in the Wexford center. Heaven.

Rent bikes - there are tons of company's to choose from. The island is all bike friendly.

Go to Coligny Plaza. It's kind of like our boardwalk. Lots of fun shops and places to eat.
