Team Blue!

After my unsettling appointment Wednesday (doc wanted to induce for baby size concerns) I got a pedicure, ate super spicy Chipotle, bounced on my yoga ball for 39 min and had sex. One of those things worked because, my water broke around 9:45 PM on 6/4 so we called my parents to come watch DD and headed off to the hospital. They quickly admitted me after testing for amniotic fluid. My contractions were coming pretty fast then at 2 min apart so I got a little excited this would be a fast labor (famous last words). I was only 1 cm and the nurse said my doc wouldn't let me get an epidural until at least 3, prefer 4.

Labored with no meds (have new respect for drug free people) until 5:30 AM when I'd finally made progress and they agreed to do the epidural. Relief was sweet. I got to sleep a little which was nice. I guess my water had only a pin hole leak because at 9:05, it really broke and started gushing. When the nurse checked me at 10:30, I was 5 cm, but apparently there's a second membrane and LO's head was floating above that and not putting much pressure on my cervix. They had me sit up and labor to see if that would help and also started pitocin. Unfortunately, I started getting really nauseated and threw up a few times. Not awesome. We started having me change positions to try to get LO to move down. I chose to just labor in a sitting position hoping for progress even though it was making me so sick.

I was really slow in progressing and puking the whole time. I didn't make 10cm until 6:30PM and LO was still at a -2 position. Doc had me start pushing to labor down at this point. I pushed for 3 hrs and LO only made it to 0 station. By this time I was exhausted, throwing up, and in a ton of pain as LO was sunny side up. At 9:30 PM, OB said she thought baby's head was too big for my pelvis and even though I was pushing really well, it was time for a c-section considering my exhaustion and pain level. At this point, I just needed the relief even though I was hoping to avoid a section. They got me into the OR and at 10:32 PM, little Jack William was born! He was 8 lb 8 oz, 20.5 in. I've thought it was a boy all along and was shocked I was right! He's been nursing so well and is way less active than his sister was. Although, 25 hours of labor was not a fun trade off...DD was only 15 hours with 40 min of pushing!

I really appreciate all the encouragement and positive thoughts about avoiding an induction next Friday. Clearly it would have been necessary! I got super emotional reading all the comments this morning! Also, thanks @MegK82 for being an awesome LB and updating everyone!

Finally, super happy we decided to go Green this time. The surprise was so fun! I also highly recommend a French braid hairstyle for labor. It really kept all my hair from my face and made placing my epi and other procedures easy since cords weren't getting tangled in my hair. And now a pic:
