Cleaning car seat cover

Somehow, my first child never spit up or had a blowout in his car seat, so I've never had to clean it. I have not been so lucky this time around and need to clean my car seat for the first time. I know the straps can only be spot cleaned, but what about the cover? Does it come off, and can I put it in the washing machine or do I need to hand wash it? I have a Chicco Keyfit 22 if that matters.

    I've taken mine off multiple times and thrown it in the washer. :)

    It is so annoying to take off the cover and then put it back on. There is this new car seat i want that will zip off instead.
    My car seat says it is ok to tumble dry but yours might be different. You could look up the manual online if you don't have it.

    Had to do this today too. :( mine is air dry...who has time for that?!

    Once I did, once I dried it in the dryer. But we live in a dry place, so it dried fast.
