Measuring big/huge

Is anyone else measuring big? Im concerned, the doctor told me not to
worry but to late. I went to my appt this morning. Im 23 weeks 5 days. Im measuring 30, how is this possible? I was measuring 2 or 3 weeks ahead last month, which ive had before in other pregnancies. But this seems exteme. She said it could be the way the baby is laying, extra fluid or more me than the baby. Also
this is number 3. She wont do another ultrasound until im 32 or 34 weeks to check on things

  • I would try not to worry if the doctor said not to worry. They have to tell you if there is a concern for safety of baby. I understand this is so much easier said than done, so hugs and FX you can relax until next u/s.

  • I measured big the entire time with DS and my doctor told me not to worry. I only gained 24lbs, but he kept telling me that my uterus was measuring ahead. THEN at the very end I slowed way down. DS was 7lbs 6oz when he was born.
  • My docs made me crazy with that measuring ahead crap with DS. Granted he did end up being a larger baby but everything was fine in the end. Try not to worry too much. The further along you get the more error there are in ultrasound measurements. I had one at 20, 25, 31 and 36 weeks with DS and by 36 weeks the error alone is +/- 1lb 9oz or something crazy like that.

  • I usually measure ahead. I am already a heavy lady and I have a very short torso - baby can only grow OUT not up. My drs freaked me the heck out with DD1 saying she would be 10+ lbs and we would have to talk c/s. She came on her own at 38 weeks at a respectable (and average) size - 7 lb 14 oz, 20.5 inches.

  • I always measure two weeks bigger even with my first. I was convinced she was going to be giant we'll she was a healthy average 7 pounds 12 oz and we had to run out and get newborn diapers and clothes since she was swimming in everything we had
  • At last appt I was measuring 2 weeks ahead, but on my last u/s he was right on target, so I think the bigger tummy is more me than baby. I was overweight prior to BFP (well - I still AM, but just to give you perspective, lol.)

  • I also measured 2 weeks ahead - midwife wasn't too concerned but did schedule an u/s for 27 weeks

  • I haven't been measured yet. I'm pretty sure that was later in my pregnancy as well last time. I thought things could change a lot during this time. My doctor last time told me +-2 weeks was always normal but who knows. It was actually how she caught my son's IUGR. At 36 weeks I was measuring 32 so she sent me for a growth ultrasound. If your doctor wasn't worried I wouldn't either. And I'm sure if there is something to worry about you'll be sent for an ultrasound to check. Some people just have bigger babies (or smaller ones).

Does your OB measure you at every appointment? At one of my very early appointments in first trimester, the nurse practitioner told me that they would be measuring my belly at the later appointments once my uterus moved up, but I've never actually been measured and I'm 26+3 already. I have an appointment next week and this is something I was already planning to ask my OB about, so I figured I would check with you ladies to see how frequently you are measured and how early they started measuring??
I haven't been measured yet, but I really just started showing a baby bump recently. I am overweight too, so that might have something to do with it. They will probably say I am measuring big when they start measure because I carry my weight in my abdomen area mostly.

OP - I think if your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either.

  • @knovitski - I was measured for the first time at my last appt. (24 weeks). I figured they wouldn't start doing it until the 3rd trimester, but I guess not.

  • I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead and doc isn't worried. I've consistently been measuring 1 week ahead until this last week.
  • If your doctor wasn't worried then I wouldn't worry about it.

    THIS.

  • I don't think measuring is accurate.  I was having ultrasounds because I had a preemie last time, and at 18 weeks, I was measuring 19.4 and at 22 weeks I was measuring 24.3.  I asked if it meant I had g.d., and the tech said that my baby just was large all over and did not look like a g.d. baby.  I will have the g.d. test this week and find out for sure.  DH was born at 32 weeks and weighed 6.5 lbs.  His brother was born at 36 weeks and weighed 9.5 lbs.  My first was born at 32 weeks and weighed 5.6 lbs.  I am worried that DH's genes are going to make delivery of this one hard, but what can I do?
