I'm so glad I'm not the only one having battles with ridiculous names! My husband wants a "strong" boy name. His first choice? Magnus. Nope. Never gonna happen. Second choice, Angus. WTF?
My FI has one boy name that he is insisting will be the babies name. No matter how many times I tell him it's not going to happen, he keeps calling the baby that & telling other people it's going to be his name. I am at my wits end and now it's just making me more and more angry every time he says it.
I feel like a broken record...."We are not changing our dogs name and naming our baby Beau" He seriously will not stop...our dog is still a puppy at 1.5 years old...he named the dog Beau! End of story!!!
Haha these are awesome! Maybe the men are trying to wear you down with the crazy names so they can sneak up with their actual more "normal" first choices later, at which time you'll be so relieved they are suggesting something normal that you'll just agree!
Hubby was dead set & 100% serious on naming my son ... Wait for it..
ROCK.
Yes. Rock.
He said there's no stronger name.. Literally?!
Smh.
I literally laughed out loud!!!! I almost peed my pants! Rock and Forrest, they could be friends!
I worked with someone named Rock. Seriously.
There is a student in my partners class whose name is Stone.
I think Stone was a character on the soap opera General Hospital back in the day. :-) Our boy's name has long been settled, although I'm having occasional doubts about it because one of the common nicknames for the first name with our last name is also the name of an actor. (Will Smith) As I was thinking about this, I started wondering if we could use Liam as the nickname for William instead of Will. (It's important to me to use William because it's hubby's middle name, and the first name of his favorite Uncle, who never had kids of his own) I wandered over to babynames.com to look up Liam, and I see their Name of the Day is Sitanka, which means Big Foot. It's supposed to be a girls name. WTAF?
Since I decided the boy name before we were even TTC, hubby has diligently been working on girls' names. Because we went on our honeymoon to Wales, he was looking at Welsh girls names. There are many lovely Welsh girls names, but I didn't like any one the ones he picked.
Seren
Sulwyn
Gwen - (anything beginning with Gwen, and there are a bunch)
Our A/S is in 2 weeks - maybe soon the girl name conversation will be a moot point!

I think it's working! Dh suggested Lincoln for a boy, at first I said "no way". But I actually really like it now. Hudson and Lincoln, cute together too.
@PineApple85 - No offense taken! I think they are beautiful but I don't want to saddle my kid with a difficult to pronounce name - Sulwyn is pronounced Seel-win for example. Plus if we have a boy whose name is William, I don't want his sister later on to have a name that's too far off the wall. it would be like naming one kid Bob and the other Khaleesi. :-)

I cant get my DH to take choosing names seriously. Last time I asked him if there were any names he liked he came up with Spork and first name "Rum" middle name "Plestilskin". He says he will try and come up with legit names once we are closer to the due date. Sadly we told his family about his names and now they refer to the baby as spork...I'm hoping that doesn't stick!
So I'm having trouble mobile bumping but have to comment. In regards to the name Rock, I'm related to one. I have an Uncle Rock. Grandma was a little bold with names for the time I think though, there's also Guy, Drake, etc.
MH was thinking seriously about names for the first month. He quickly resorted to ridiculous names in response to my constant "What do you think of (name)?" Most recently Amythyst (gross spelling) and Opticon. Thanks dear.
Mine tried it. I told him the person carrying the baby, as well as squeezing it out of their vagina, has veto power. We are in love with the name Chloe. But it took some time.
I kind-of dig Forrest & Galen. But I sometimes like more weird names.
My DH is NO help. He just vetoes everything & doesn't make suggestions.
Same here. Or he'll claim he likes a name and then a few days later will change his mind. Driving me nuts.
He was set on "Stone" for a while and I continue to veto. He even once tried to get me to agree (while I was drunk) to allow our first son to be "Stone" and I would have naming rights to all subsequent children. Didn't happen.
Being Mexican, i like the different names, husband is much more traditional. Our ds is Miles Christopher John. We do two middle names. If this lo is a boy we agreed on Thomas Antonio Augustin. Of course I'll pronounce it Tomas. If lo is a girl i really want to name her Luna Luz. Hubs is not so sure on that one.

Maybe my DH was thinking StarWars but he can't stop talking about if we have a boy it will be named HANS! I don't think so!! I want a polynesian name, considering that is what my DH is, I don't see how Hans even remotely works. Totally vetoed that idea.
I have a cat named Cricket!
DH is set on having a little boy he can call Frank. He rationalized it saying my middle name is Framces so don't I want a son to share my family name? I've hated the name for years, but finally caved and said if we have 3 boys the third could be Francis. But he had to agree to Kennedy as a third girls name-turned out to be a pretty easy was to persuade him!
He does keep coming up with strange girls names even after we picked our favorite. I think it's just push my buttons now!

@tarynleann Lincoln is a favorite of mine, as well. :-)
Forrest and Galen aren't that bad! I know people IRL with these names.
Edited to try to fix mobile quotes.
My dh won't do a boys make other then his. Just be named after him. seriously?? wtf!!! if it is a girl we can't name her afterme. sheesh
