Plus-size Moms Check-in

I wish I could remember to do this thread every week! Maybe others can start it??

Anyways, how are you all doing??

Things are good on my end. I'm really trying to eat healthy, but it is just so hard!! Especially, because I am hungry all the time! At least, I have more energy and can walk the dog most days.

How's your eating going? How are you staying active? What are your concerns in general?

One other random question... Do you know where one can get plus size maternity shape wear? It looks like Spanx maternity sizes aren't plus...

Re: Plus-size Moms Check-in

  • I gave up trying to eat healthy cause I just get sick if I don't eat what my body wants. I have to eat kind of starchy foods to make anything settle. I don't get sick (like throwing up)unless it's in the morning and I have just brushed my teeth. That seems to be what makes me throw up. Or if I haven't eaten on time.

I'm so ready to feel better, but it isn't looking positive. I'm 14w today. So hopefully things simmer down.

I did lose a pound at my last appointment.

  • Haloooo! I don't know about the shape wear but I feel like this conversation was mentioned recently--- I don't remember what came of it.

I am at the 12 week mark and am not showing but my uterus is definitely hard. I have actually lost weight after gaining 6 lbs in the first 6 weeks. I'm down to where I was when I got pregnant and I am hoping to hang out here for at least another 6 weeks.

I am not exercising--I have no energy! I know the cyclical nature of it-- if I excercise I would have more energy, blah blah.

  • I'm doing well. I haven't been as active as I'd like, but I will be in upcoming weeks since I have a few trips planned that involved a LOT of walking. I'll feel much better (in general) after today's ultrasound. I am so antsy and nervous about it!

I just bought regular Spanx in a size larger than normal. They worked fine and were still comfortable. I don't intend to keep wearing them throughout pregnancy, but I needed them recently for my graduation dress.

Work pants - my favorite last time were the Motherhood ponte pants with a full panel. Confession: I've worn them to work for the last 3 years, even well after pregnancy/postpartum! :) They're super comfortable, and the panel serves as shapewear when not pregnant, haha. I just recently wore holes in them from constant wear, so I need to get another couple of pairs.

  • Morning all!!! Things going good here too. I have a few foods that I have to avoid to keep it that way but overall good. Eating is ok off and on been eating a lot of frozen pizza bc I want all the pizza and about the only way I can stomach meat. My weight is still down so happy with that.
I'm trying to walk and do yoga but my exhaustion is not improving when I get home.
No idea about the shape wear I can't stand the things I'm not comfortable being all squeezed into something.

  • Hey all, I've been following but it's my first time posting:) due Dec 5th, so just starting the 2nd tri, and def less nausea and less fatigue. I was following weight watchers before my BFP and have stayed on it getting the max points, so doing my best to stay healthy. I've lost 12lbs during the first tri, but mostly to nausea, as I've lost nothing since I've gained my appetite back (yay!). I've been walking but not enough as work has been exhausting.

I did find a shape wear and here are my thoughts: I'm a size 22/24, 5'7. I tried belevation (Amazon) in XL and found they were very loose and offered no support at this point. They may come in handy later so I kept them. I also got 2 Baby Be Mine (Amazon) belly bands in size 4 and they fit perfectly right now. I think they have am enough room to grow in a bit as well in the "bump" region.
  • Feeling better now that I am in 2nd trimester-but uterus must be moving up because I'm feeling flabby and gross. Wish I "looked" Prego, but I just look fat. Haven't gain any weight-but just feel like I'm a gross cow. Can't find comfortable pants and my jeans are starting to hurt at the belly button. Anyone have suggestions on comfortable, nice looking maternity items for plus size girls? I just want to feel comfortable without wearing sweats.
  • Hello everyone! I am doing pretty well--never developed any nausea or ms, which I feel is contributing to my weight struggles this time around! The first time I was pregnant I dropped 15 pounds in the first tri, this time I gained 5 pounds in 5 weeks, ugh! Then I had norovirus last week and lost 8 pounds, and now I am back to what I was pre-pregnancy. Bleh.

It all just sucks, I got away with not really being vigilant at all in my last pregnancy, sleeping all the time and eating a lot of carbs (my only real craving was sugary cereal, yummm) and still hardly gaining a pound until the last few weeks of my third tri. This time around I am not going to be getting away with that at all! Have to admit, I'm a little bummed out about it.

But instead of moping, I'll just be grateful that I haven't been debilitated by nausea like so many of us have, and take the damn dog for a walk. :)

  • Morning! I'm doing pretty well, but my morning nausea is still giving me issues at 10 weeks. My eating habits aren't the best. I eat what sounds good and what I crave; I'm hoping that this will change when my stomach is less fragile. I'm all about afternoon naps. The only exercise I'm getting right now is cleaning my house, you know, when I'm not napping. My foremost concern is how well my ultrasound tomorrow will go-hopefully there will be a healthy baby with a strong hb!
  • Hello again everyone! I'm doing alright. I'm still getting some nausea and vomiting at night but it seems like it's finally dying off. Eating has been pretty poor to be honest and I'm still so tired that working out is difficult. I really need to get on it though because I know I'm gaining way too fast. Going to try to get to the local Y and try swimming. Would really take the edge off of these crazy hot days.

  • Eating has been kinda crappy still. I still crave mostly carbs. I did order a salad last week to get some greens in. I also went to the gym yesterday and a few times last week. But I'm really hit.or miss with it. Since we didn't go for 2 months DD regressed and has terrible meltdowns when I try to drop her off. She used to LOVE it there. So if I stay consistent I'm hoping she'll like it again.

As for shapewear, I bought the motherhood line last pregnancy. It was meh. Not support really but kept my thunder thighs from giving me Swamp crotch or creating fire. This time I got the Assets version of spanx on amazon. Reason being reviews for the spanx line said the belly area was thin and ripped (it replaces the tummy shaper with nylon). I wear a lot of dresses and can not be comfortable unless I'm wearing something to keep my thighs from rubbing.

Otherwise I gained another lb when I was weighed at my NT scan. Sigh. Whatever. I'm also officially showing now so that's fun and has relieved some of the mental stress of just feeling fatter.

Hey ladies! I'm doing well. I'm finally at the second trimester and can definitely feel myself getting less tired. Unfortunately now sleeping has become the problem. It's just so uncomfortable nowadays!

I have been trying to eat healthy foods but I also can't help but crave the junk/fast food. The big issue is that I'm hungry ALL the time. I don't want to gain too much cause I've only gained 5lbs but man does it feel like so much more. I can definitely tell a large difference when I move around and it's uncomfortable.

So far walking is my favorite workout. I go for walks or walk to places I'd normally take the bus/train to. It also helps that my hospital is a nice walk from my apartment.

  • hey all first time posting in this thread. I 've been eating healthy mainly because what I'm craving is fruits and veggies. can't move much because I have pcos and ended up high risk. haven't gained weight yet I'm 11 weeks
  • Life is good. This is our rainbow baby, and I am trying to stay positive (even though ms).

Hi. New to the board, due 12/3.  I've been somewhat succeeding at eating somewhat healthy. I do keep a supply of skinny cow icecreams in my freezer.  They really satisfy my sweets craving, and they don't have an obscenely high amount of calories.  I realize that just sounded so completely spammy, but I swear I'm real.

  • Hey Ladies. So Sonic drive-in is healthy, right? ;) my eating is not so good, but really hasn't been my focus. Totally just trying to stay awake to help with our 7 month old after work and during the night. All I want to do is sleep. Last pregnancy I lost weight, this one I've just maintained the same weight which is ok by me for the moment. I hit 13 weeks tomorrow and have tons of stress with work right now, so I'm just glad to not be rapidly increasing!

I like the stuff at motherhood last time. Need to pick up some more things, but I'm at the "nothing helps me look good" phase mentally even though I'm definitely showing (tiny ab muscles who disappeared with DS I miss you!)

  • First time posting.
Luckily morning sickness has been to a minimum. I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow and at my appt 2 weeks ago I was down 5lbs. I have been doing much better this pregnancy with what I eat. With dd all I craved was salt and Dr.pepper. this one so far only craving pears and cottage cheese. Hoping to keep weight gain to a minimum. Still in that awkward stage where I look more fat then pregnant

  • And I can do this post weekly on Tuesdays if that's easier for you :) I usually do my AM bumping while DS eats breakfast so I'm always here lol

That would be amazing! I stink at remembering!!

@nesenotes, I am the same way. I wear dresses most of the time, but I've never worn shape wear. I get the dansko leggings from Walmart (with the quick dry) and wear them with EVERYTHING. I love those damn pants. I even wear a pair as a bathing suit bottom (keeps my cellulite covered ;) )

Another option is buying a split slip, sometimes called culotte slips. Basically silky bloomers, lol. I hate my thighs rubbing, love my dresses, and both leggings and the split slip keep my assets covered if my kids lift my skirt, haha, Noooo, that would NEVER happen :P

  • Just want to say I LOVE this thread. So nice to have you all! Nice to have people who understnad the chub-rub between the thighs, looking (and feeling) fat and not pregnant, and just not feeling super cute and pregnant like all the pregnant people around us.
  • 14 weeks today and feeling better. My downfall is this baby craves buffalo sauce and spicy food and it doesn't agree with my tummy. Hoping these cravings subside soon. I'm feeling frustrated with maternity pants. everything I try on is too tight in the legs. I've never had that problem. Its always been my big belly that was a size or two bigger than everything else.
I go to bed about 2 hours earlier because I'm so exhausted all the time.

I'm trying to not let life stresses bring me down lately but everyday there's a new problem. Sometimes being an adult blows.
  • In general I'm doing ok with my eating. Having to follow a diabetic diet since I'm diabetic.... it sucks because I'm hungry all the time as well! I stay active by playing with my daughter and niece and nephew taking them swimming daily, going to the park etc. My morning sickness is fading to nausea and boobs are still very sore and getting even bigger. I have had luck at Motherhood Maternity for plus size everything including shapeware.
  • I am doing okay! M/S is gone but my titter pain is awful. I have actually lost 18lbs and the Dr's are really unconcerned. When I DO eat, it's healthy enough, haha.
  • When did you ladies actually start showing, or showing w/ your first?  I'm seeing so many posts here of these cute tiny girls at 11/12 weeks with these nice bumps.  I'm a size 14 normally - except mostly those don't fit my flab right now, but there's nothing bumpy about what's happening.  This is all above the belly button action.

  • First time posting. I am 10 weeks, I am suppose to be walking. But that hasn't happened. I work as a waitress, so by the time I get off, just too tired to do anything. I have been eating more veggies, but I crave Chicken chaupla from Taco Bell. Really haven't really been wanting to eat a lot of food. No real bump. Told my prego friend the other day after eating taco bell, I grab the top of my belly and said this taco bell bump then grab the bottom and said this is baby bump. Lol. We got a good laugh.
My clothes have been a little snug but not too bad yet.
  • I had my first real appointment this week, and the weighing in... it was not good.  I'm hoping that as we round the corner into the second trimester some healthy things will start sounding good again, because this cannot continue at this pace for the next 6 months.

They're also pretty concerned about my iron levels, but it's nice to know that my zero energy level probably isn't all in my head and that if we get that going the gym might sound like a good idea again.  It's been a couple weeks.

I'm feeling kind of guilty about not being excited enough or something this week? Like we heard the heartbeat for the first time, and to be honest I only kind of heard it and had expected that I would cry or something, but nope.  Granted there's a lot going on, we're buying a house, work is nuts, but I hope that come July things will get a little more fun again.

I did tell my boss this morning and that went MUCH better than I expected, so quite a relief there. :)
  • Hi ladies,

I'm on the misses/plus border as well. I've totally lucked out not to have any m/a or strong food aversions or cravings, so I've been able to eat relatively healthy.

I had horrible fatigue during the first tri, but that seems to have passed. I started going back to the gym a few weeks ago, but the workouts I do with the trainer are really light (especially compared to prepregnancy...) so I don't know that I am doing enough.

What does a typical gym workout look like for those of you who go that route for exercise?
