And much earlier than expected.
This past week, I was sent over to the hospital by my OB for observation. She sent me home with a 24 hour urinalysis. We both had already known what results were coming coincidering how bad I was swelling and other symptoms I was having. Friday was my follow up for results. They weren't good. It was finally offical, I had preeclampsia, so back to the hospital she sent me with the words "Go now. Forget your stuff, your husband can get it but there's a 90% chance you are having a baby." This was around noon. Get there, get settled. Her associate was the OB on call, and together around 4, they decided to admit me, it was time for Lizzy Mae to join the world.
Immediately I had to sign tons of convent forms, was hooked up to pitocin and mag, given a foley (thanks to the mag), and the process began.
A few minutes after midnight my doctor came into check me. I was a whole 2cms. It was now time to break my water. At first everything was okay, they just couldn't get a good reading with the external monitors. As much as I hated the idea of internal monitors, I sucked it up, and just let them do what they had to do. Good thing too, because about 20 minutes later, no matter what possition they had me lay in, regardless of oxygen, Lizzy was still having decels. They than hooked up some saline to one of the external monitors and that allowed them to put some water back into my placenta.
After this things went smoothly got a bit. Progression was slow, painful, but lizzy was a-okay.
At around 3:30 pm, Saturday, still in labor, I had already had my epidoral, maybe 2 hours earlier. I was so exhausted, it had already been about 24 hours since the induction began, it was time to be checked again. The nurse checked me, asked me a ton of questions, which was quickly followed by the doctor tellimg me he just wanted to check for himself where I was. He said "We are about a 7. Oh god we have a prolaspe, I need an OR now!" The nurse came in, along with god knows how many other nurses, I'm signing papers for the emergnancy csection, being talked to by the anesthesiologist about my hot spot and how I may need to be put to sleep, trying to not freak out, watching my husband throw on a bunny suit, just watching the chaos feeling totally helpless, wondering if my baby was okay.
Down in the OR they determined my hot spot was right where I would be cut so I was quickly put under, and by 1604 my girl was born.
Apparently, she was not born with a heart beat (they knew she had one up to that point because someone was holding the cord.) and she also wasn't breathing. She was limp. They said it didn't take very long at all to get her back, but as they rushed down the hallway with her explained to my husband she was being rushed to the NICU for fluids because she was in shock and we could possibly see her in a few hours.
Once I woke, I was told the same thing, and it felt like someone kicked me in the chest. They took my husband down and let him take a few pictures but it wasn't until around 9, That I finally was able to meet her, but I couldn't hold her. I was still drugged, and very weak.
After everything though, she's very healthy. We are still here at the hospital because I was on mag, and her pediatrician wanted to monitor her one more night. I'm okay with that though, I'm just happy for the outcome that we had.
Also, dispite not being due until June 17th, Lizzy was 7lbs 14ozs, 20.5 inches long and was born May 31st.
