I'm 34 and will be 34 when the baby is born, my birthday is in April (I just missed the "silly" advanced maternal age category!)

This may sound weird to some, but true if you live in the NY,NJ,CT area. Most women around here don't get started with families and such until 30+. It is definitely not the norm to have babies before 26 around here. There is no judgement in this statement at all, but it is pretty true! I don't know if it has to do with careers, schooling, but most people in/ around NYC start later. It just seems to be the case.

I don't live in that area, but we are the first in our circle bc h is on a PhD program, so most waor until done or even longer to establish a career. I'm guessing in NYC there is also a wait to start for the same basic reason.

H and I actually got married quite young (just shy of 21), but waited 7 years so he could focus on school. We also wanted to travel and have fun before the fun (and work!) of raising kids.

I don't know if it is because it is more expensive to get started homewise too (avg. 2 br apartment rent $1600 or higher and 3br small house avg. between $300-350k with 7k-10k taxes a year). Most if the friends we have can't afford to do eithet until at least 28ish. I guess it just depends on the area of the country! It's just interesting the trends!
