Hello!
I wanted to introduce myself.
First of all- I have been lurking on the board for some time, knowing that adoption was a possibility for us. I want to thank you for all of the information that you post- you have been a wealth of knowledge for me(and I'm sure others)!
I am 30, DH is 33. We have been married for almost 5 years, TTC for over 4.5. Our TTC journey has had one bump in the road after another including multiple diagnoses, misdiagnoses and even a disappearing doctor. Anyway, we are just beginning a journey into adoption. We are pursuing domestic infant adoption, and we believe we have chosen an agency. We are meeting with them in a few days to discuss the process and see if this is the agency we want to use.
Do you have any suggestions? (Either in general or questions we should ask the agency) TIA

Re: Intro!
Welcome!
I have a ton of questions you can ask, here's my word vomit off the top of my head
Licensing questions (how recently were they licensed, how often are they re-licensed, etc)
Fee schedule
What happens to the fees if the adoption falls through (is it held in escrow, is it lost, etc)
Where you go on the list of waiting families if the adoption falls through (do you go to the top of families to consider)
What kind of counseling is provided to all members of the adoption triad
Are there any agency policies that you aren't in agreement with (eg, won't allow singles or LGBT families to adopt, minorities have a different fee schedule, marriage requirements, religious requirements)
What is their ratio of waiting families to placements per year (the closer to 1:1 the shorter the wait, and it's more informative than the average wait time, which can vary greatly)
What the homestudy process is like
Who handles the legal side of the adoption (many agencies contract with specific lawyers)
Do they allow the use of more than one agency
How do they handle identified adoptions (ie, you find out your mother's neighbor's sister's daughter wants to make an adoption plan, will your agency work with her to place with you)
Can they provide references, especially those who have had adoptions fall through (you want to see how the agency handles the bad as well as the good)
When you sign a contract, is that binding for the life of the adoption process, or does it renew after a certain period of time
That's all I can remember right now. GL!
