baby clothes during hospital stay?

STM here, but DS was in the NICU for 40 days and not allowed to wear clothes until body temp could regulate on it's own. Every thing is looking good so far this time around. I will be having a RCS and hospital stay is expected to be 4-5 days. Do I need to bring multiple outfits for LO? I have the going home and another for pictures, but not sure if the rest of the time I should just doe onsies and a blanket?

Nah, they will have t shirts for the baby.

  • They kept DS in a hopsital tee & swaddled unless we specifically asked for him to wear his clothes. So no you don't technically need more clothes unless you just want to. I brought a few sleepers for him to wear during the day while we had visitors but other than that I'm sure it's more convenient for the nursery to change him & care for him in a tee & blanket.

  • I brought a few outfits the first time and in our free moments did my own photo shoots of ds. The hospital provided us with long sleeve onesies with the hand covers, so clothes were unnecessary really except for the ride home. I enjoyed changing him and taking pics and enjoy looking back on those pics.
  • We just kept DD in hospital shirts and receiving blankets until it was time to go home.

  • They have shirts and blankets for baby. You could definitely bring clothes, but I see no need to have extra laundry when you get home. :)

Same here.  Only "problem" I had was that I hadn't packed anything (for me or baby) so it was on DH to bring stuff from home and the "Daddy's Little Football" onesie is not exactly what I had in mind for going home in, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that important.

I love the little hospital tees and blankets.  You're not "supposed" to take any of the blankets home, but one may have made it into the bottom of my bag for DS.  I'm planning on doing a shadow box with the tee, hat, blanket, and wrist bands *one day when I have time*

You probably don't need anything extra, like previous posters said.  A hospital I did an internship at provided newborn gowns (those things are awesome).  The hospital that I had DD at only provided worn out ill-fitting kimono t's.  When the first one got spit up on and I asked for another I was brought one that was way too big (have I mentioned that I delivered at a crummy hospital (apparently).) Even though I'm delivering at a different hospital, I plan to toss the newborn gowns in the bag anyway, it's not like they take up a ton of room.

My current situation is a bit of a SS though.  If I deliver at the Italian hospital  (only if I go into labor in the next week or have need of a nicu) I have to bring 4 separate outfits separated into four different bags with my name on them.  The Italian hospital does not provide any clothing or really any sort of linens beyond a hospital gown, and bed sheets.  I even have to bring my own towel.  Fun times.

  • I brought a 0-3 outfit and a NB outfit that were for "going home". He stayed in the hospital clothes until it was time to go.

My nurse told me if it wasn't nailed down to take it home with me because our insurance had already paid for it. So we also totally took home a hospital tee & standard blanket for the shadow box we'll do someday when he's 29 years old.
I'm a big believer in this.  For some reason, though, our hospital was specific about the blankets.  You better believe the duffle bag the hospital gave me was jammed full of diapers, mondo pads, mesh panties, etc.  I even took home the tubing for the hospital grade breast pump because I could use it for my medela pump.  And DH had been taking diapers home with him as he went home to get things for me.
  • I have two outfits packed for each boy- one NB and a 3 month since I don't know how big they will be. I plan to just keep them in whatever the hospital provides for simplicity sake. I did pack a few receiving blankets and swaddles of my own, just in case I feel like giving them a little "style"

  • I usually take sleepers for baby to wear. I've already chosen too many things this time - plus headbands for baby girl! I just can't decide what to bring her home in.
  • I just took a plain onsie and her going home outfit with DD. This time it will be a little brother onsie and his going home outfit and that's it. I am also having a RCS and will be there 3-5 days. My hospital was all about us taking everything. I have about 5 blankets from DD and 2 of the hospital t-shirts, I am guessing it will be the same this time too.

  • I'm also planning on just bringing the coming home outfit and maybe one other but mostly keeping him in the hospital shirts and swaddle while he's there.
  • My hospital didn't have clothes, and nothing I brought fit, so she was in a diaper and swaddled in 3 or 4 blankets because she had trouble keeping her temp up for the first couple days, skinny little thing.  My mom brought some preemie clothes in for me on the second or third day and then she was dressed.  I definitely got the side eye from a nurse for not having clothes on her.  Whatever, she was term, I thought she'd be bigger.

She wore her coming home outfit around 12 weeks I think.

  • I have a 2 sleepers and a coming home outfit in both newborn and in 0-3 so she will fit either size.  The first day DD will be in the hospital tee and blanket, but when people start coming to visit and all, she will be dressed in a sleeper or sleep gown.

Since our hospital doesn't do any of the infant care beyond checks twice a day they don't care what baby is wearing as long as they keep their temp regulated.  DD had a few times her temp would drop, so I would strip her down and she would be naked on my chest under a blanket anyway.

  • I will have baby in our clothing as soon as she has her first bath. I felt like the clothing the hospital provided was huge and rough. Not to mention I hate shirts on tiny babies and kept getting scratched by the cord clamp if she didn't have a onesie on.

  • DD just wore the white shirts provided in the hospital.  I will probably bring along something this time around.

  • I plan on bringing hats for LO because the AC will be on & going home outfit.
Also for those wondering what size to pack, my DS was 8 lb 12-oz & almost 23 inches and he was in NB clothes for the first 2 months
  • I'm bringing gowns and the going home outfit. The shirts with DD were so big and they tied in the back so we had some trouble with them.

  • Dd was in the NICU as well and I had packed a couple,of outfits for her but she never used them. I didn't pack anything for DS the and the hospital didn't provide anything lol. Luckily people brought us gifts so he wore those things in the hospital. I will be packing two newborn outfits, 2 0-3 outfits, and a couple of ts and onesies this time to be on the safe side. Not like those things take up much room if they aren't used ;)

  • From what I remember they had little outfits for the baby to wear, otherwise he was wrapped up in a blanket. The only time he was not allowed to be wrapped up was when he was in the NICU under the lights due to his jaundice. I brought 2 going home outfits to choose from.

That's what we did last time. I'm thinking we will probably do the same this time.

  • I'm only bringing a go home outfit. DS was swaddled in only his diaper while in the NICU to help regulate his temp. on his own. So I will probably just let DD be swaddled in her diaper as well. No need for extra stuff in my bag.
