Hi June Bump Family! It's my turn to share my birth story! Watch out it's a long one! It was just too fun to relive the whole experience by writing it!
*Woke up at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday morning with some contractions. I had been having Braxton Hicks for a few weeks, but these were slightly more painful. I tried sleeping through them, but by 4:30 a.m. they were getting stronger so I woke DH. He was very calm and collected, and he began timing my contractions. They were pretty consistent at about 6-7 minutes apart, but I wasn't in very much pain, so I thought false alarm. By 7 a.m. I decided I should at least call my obgyn to see what they would tell me. When I called, I talked to a nurse who reminded me that my doctor was out of town until Wednesday morning. She told me to wait until 9:30, and I could go see a midwife. DH and I spent those couple of hours walking around the block.
*9:30 a.m. Tuesday rolled around, they hooked me up to a machine to check baby's movement, heart rate, and contractions. All looked well, but the midwife didn't think my contractions were anything special. She checked me and I was 1.5 cm dilated. She said, "Well, I don't think it's happening any time soon... go home and drink some water and relax" DH and I went home a little bit bummed.
*I spent the rest of Tuesday trying to get some sleep since I had been up since midnight. I had no luck because the contractions were still coming and seemed to be intensifying. DH's work friends brought us some AMAZING dinner, so we ate what we didn't know would be our last meal as a family of 2. After dinner, again we walked around the block. Nothing was really getting worse or better at this point in time.
*We came back home, I took a bath thinking that my contractions would go away since the midwife was convinced that this wasn't it! After my bath, DH and I again went on a walk around the block... only this time, the contractions really stopped me in my tracks. DH would have gone to the hospital right then, but I didn't want to go in just to get turned away again.
*By 10:30 p.m. I was lying down with DH, still calm and collected, holding a heat pad to my lower back as I began to breathe through the contractions that were now about 5 minutes apart. Finally, I had a minor breakdown about how I didn't know what to do... and I didn't know if this was it or not! DH continued his non-stop support until 11:15 when I felt a pop! I sat up so fast and said "I either just peed a whole bunch or my water just broke" I rushed to the bathroom when I realized it was, in fact, my water! I could see DH from the bathroom; he was still in bed. When I said it was my water that broke, it was the first real look of "oh shit" that I saw in him!

He went into super speed mode. I was cleaning up a bit and throwing some last minute things into our go bag, while he took care of the dog, put dishes in the dishwasher, finished a load of laundry... all in the fastest mode I have ever seen him in! I called the dr,, and they had me talk to the on call dr... again making me realize that my doctor is out of town. He said to come in and they will see what's up.
*We arrived at the hospital at 12 a.m. Wednesday morning, as I stepped out of the car I had another HUGE gush of my water. I was in some major pain by this point! Our amazing delivery nurse wheeled me back into our delivery room, let me clean up a bit and checked for dilation. She said I was at a 5 or 6! This was it! DH looked terrified, I felt terrified... but both of us knew our little girl was coming! They let me labor for a while, and when the contractions became a little too strong, I received my epidural. It was amazing! They checked me again and I was at an 8! Our nurse said to get some rest before push time. DH fell asleep in no time, but I was too excited, so what do I do? Message my labor buddy
@kinipela7!
*3 a.m. rolled around, I was checked and told 10 cm and time to get to pushing! At this point, I was again reminded that even though it is technically Wednesday, my doctor had not checked back in from vacation, so I would be seeing the on call doctor. This was not a big deal to me, I knew any doctor at my hospital would be great, but I was a bit disappointed because I love my doctor.
*I pushed and pushed and pushed... I could not get this little one to crown. The nurse kept saying that I would get progress and then she would suck back up. Baby could not make it past my pelvic bone. At this point I had been awake and having contractions for 27 hours, I was exhausted, but would not let myself get discouraged! 5:30 a.m. and still no crowning. The nurse said she doesn't like to let anyone push more than 2 hours without getting the doctor and we had already gone over that, so she called him in. DH was sooooo amazing throughout this entire LONG experience with encouraging words and a hand to hold! The doctor came in and watched me push through a few contractions while trying to manipulate with his hands so little one could get her head through.
*6 a.m. (3 hours of pushing) He says that we have a few options. 1. Baby's heart rate looks awesome, so if I wanted, I could continue to push. 2. Forceps, but it would only be 3 attempts of pushing with forceps before we would have to go for a Csection 3. Go straight for the Csection. DH and I discussed what we wanted... I knew the risks of each option... The doctor did not seem to think pushing any more would get anywhere even though he said I was doing everything correctly. I told the doctor that I wanted to give pushing a try through a few more contractions, but the baby kept moving in the right direction and then pushing back up in between contractions no matter what position I was in. He left the room momentarily to prepare for a forceps delivery.
*6:20 a.m. The phone in our labor and delivery room rings... It was MY doctor! She had just checked back in for the day and asked if I wanted her to come to the hospital. I said absolutely!
*6:38 a.m. My doctor shows up in flip flops, a skirt, and floral tank top... so very casual for a delivery haha

She watched me push through one contraction, and then using her hand pushed around while I pushed through the next. We made a little progress, so she was really encouraging the same thing to happen through the next contraction... With everyone cheering me on and my body completely exhausted... Her little head came out! Within seconds, my doctor grabbed a gown, and some booties (to cover her flip flops of course), 2 baby nurses rushed in, and we were ready to go! From this point, it literally only took a few more pushes before we heard our daughter's beautiful cry at 7:02 a.m. (again, after being awake and having contractions for 31 hours and pushing for almost an exact 4 hours) I cried and cried that my daughter was here, that my DH had been so amazing, that my doctor ended up delivery our baby, that I avoided forceps and anything more serious! I did it, and I felt like a warrior! Everyone was shocked at her color, breathing, and great apgar score since she had been stuck in my pelvis for so long... however, we did have one massive cone head! But it was the cutest cone head I had ever seen!
I am more in love with her than I ever could have imagined... and DH is completely smitten! I was the talk of the hospital for our stay due to the extent of my pushing. It's true, pushing that long sucked... my legs are still sore from being in pushing position so long, I have a 2nd degree tear, and my body is still achy... but I feel beyond blessed that I somehow had the stamina to do it and baby had the health to handle it.
It's my pleasure to introduce Emery Claire! She was 7 pounds 0 oz. of perfection!
