  • You have to first see if her relatives are registered with a tribe, if they are you( the agency) must contact the tribe and ask for permission to place the child. Legally the tribe has the right to deny or revoke adoptions of tribal members( the child) to non tribal members. They have to put in writing that they have granted the child's adoption out of the tribe. They may want to register the child with the tribe, they may require certain things (time spent with tribe, cultural education for the child, etc).

    If neither she nor her relatives are registered it is VERY unlikely that the tribe will care/be able to do anything.  Best to do the legwork though to prevent a baby Veronica.
