I have a PhD in cellular immunology and did biomedical research for a while, until @C12H22O11‌ I jumped ship too, about 7 years ago, and transitioned to medical communications. As of today ( :D ZOMG), I am VP of Medical Affairs at a medical affairs agency. We work with pharma companies on the science and strategy behind drug development. It's so neat to see what everyone does!

@bribbon - what was your area of research? I was synthesizing and testing nucleoside analogues as viral reverse transcriptase inhibitors.  Sadly, it was a massive failure.  Oh well.  :)

I'm a high school teacher... no, actually I guess I'm a stay at home mom.  I still can't get used to that.

Freelance editor. I work from home but haven't started back up again yet. Currently, I'm reading and doing puzzles and trying to reactivate the 80% of my brain that has been untouched since LO was born...

Are we talking print or video? I was an avid freelance editor when I lived in LA on movies and reality tv. Now I live up in NorCal working as an assistant editor for a large company.
Oh sorry, I should have specified!

Print. My experience is largely in young adult and historic nonfiction. (And yes, it is a long story how those became my areas.)

I'd love to get into novels at some point, but the experience I've had has been pretty awesome.
I am addicted to YA! My husband is a writer and has written 2 so far. I'm his in house editor. ;)

Can I ask how you got into this field? Do you need to be certified? I've always wanted to do something like this and I'm starting to look up options for when the kids get bigger and I can go to school. I'm a sahm currently.

I have a degree or three in engineering but currently stay at home with my girls. I will probably go back in a few years. But I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do when I grow up.

I'm a project director for a biopharmaceutical research organization specializing in early phase clinical trials. I actually started out working in the lab for this company analyzing clinical samples (animal/human plasma, serum, urine, whole blood) and have since moved my way up to project management. It can be extremely stressful but I enjoy it nonetheless :)

What you do is one of the hardest jobs I've ever heard of and I am so glad to know someone with a compassionate heart like yours does it.
