slow weight gain from 4 to 5 months?

DD2 was 15lbs 7 oz at her 4 month appointment which was one month ago.  She has been a bit quicker to nurse lately, won't nurse if we are anywhere but home, and overall distracted so I weighed her a couple of days ago, and she was 15lbs 11 oz.  I weighed her again today, and she is the same.  This seems a bit off to me.  I looked at DD1's baby book (she also weighed 15lbs 7 oz at her 4 month) and she weighed in at 17lbs 9 oz at her 6 month.  DD2 still has a full month to gain, but gaining only 6 oz in a month seems low right?  I did three weighted feeds with her today because I am not nervous, and she took in 3 oz each time.  She nurses 8 times a day so that would mean she is taking in 24 oz which Kellymom says is okay.  What do you girls think?  I don't know if I can get her to nurse any more often, but I can try.  Should I be pushing that?

Re: slow weight gain from 4 to 5 months?

  • DS slowed his weight gain at 3 months. I took him in for a weighted feeding and he took 4 oz. The lactation consultant said BF babies start to hold steady and slowly gain around the 3-6 months.

She said as long as baby has enough wet diapers and is happy/thriving not to worry as long as weight gain hasn't been a concern previously.
