So I think dd may be getting pink eye. Yuck. I've read that breast milk is good for it but how do you get the breastmilk into the eye??? Hold her down and squirt? Lol. Seriously though, I can't figure out how to do this.
Both of DS's tear ducts were closed when he was born, so we battled with an eye infection (not pinkeye) when he was just a few weeks old. My Dr. said he could prescribe him an antibiotic ointment, but to try breastmilk first. I was just instructed to make sure my hands were very clean and dry, express on milk onto my finger tip, and smear it across his eye (he didn't really have much for eye lashes at that time, so there wasn't much that was kept out of his eye. I don't know if you could get access to a sterile dropper (ask the pharmacists maybe), and I think that would work really well too. Pinning them down is the hardest part.

I squirted some breast milk in a small bottle and used a medicine dropper. I've also squirted it in his eye. DS had pink eye when we visited an ENT and I was told most cases of pink eye are viral so antibiotics won't help. Sure enough, when the pedi tested it, it was viral. I thought he was getting it again over the weekend so I squirted some in his eye a few times a day. Either he wasn't getting pink eye like I thought or it worked wonders. His eye is fine now.
We'll it turns out it wasn't pink eye. Just allergies. Sorry for squirting milk in your eye, dd.
We think it was allergies anyway. The dr just diagnosed it over the phone because they don't want possible pink eye coming into their office. Maybe the milk did fix it.
