At my last ultrasound I had a number of extra follicles on my ovaries - some of them fairly large. My doctor said that this can happen with IVF, but they will want to monitor them. He said typically they get absorbed without issue. Does anyone else have experience with this? What happens if they don't absorb? I should've asked more questions, but he didn't seem too concerned, so I let it go. TIA!

From my experience, sometimes they just calm down, sometimes they will put you on BCP to make them go away, but unfortunately, sometimes they CAN burst which is extremely painful.
In my case, I had some large ones and they eventually just went away.
Depending on their size, the doctor will recommend against working out as they can twist your ovaries and do damage. The "cysts"/large follicles will enlarge your ovaries which can lead to harm if you work out too hard

I don't know... he never mentioned cysts, but that is what I was thinking. There were more on my left ovary, and the biggest one was on the left too. I was 9.5 weeks at the time. I don't have another US until 6/4, I 'll be 12w2d. How long did yours take to go away on their own?

Are you sure the "follicles" aren't just fluid filled sacs from where they took your eggs? That's what I have left over on my ovaries. They are huge and uncomfortable but my RE says my body will reabsorb the fluid and they will calm down by the second tri.
That makes more sense, but they kept referring to them as "follicles". I will certainly ask more questions at my next appointment. I have been having some weird pains mostly on my left side, so I was guessing it was related. Thank you ladies!
