What is your coffee intake?

edited May 2014 in November 2014 Moms
I know coffee is deemed safe, I talked to my doctor about how much I can have, but I am still curious to see how much you are all drinking. I personally have 1 cup of coffee, everyday. With my first I didn't have a single drop of coffee or caffeine, so of course sometimes I feel a bit guilty even though I know it's probably just fine!

  • I had to go "special snowflake" I only drink coffee every now and then (like once a month) but I have a really strong iced tea every morning without fail, and sometimes drink another one as a pick me up in the afternoons too. I actually had this super vivid dream about an iced white mocha from Starbucks last night and it was sooo delicious in my dream - so I think there will be one in my hand in the very near future.

Pre pregnancy I always had one cup a day. During the first two months I just could not stomach it and had no interest in it. Now I have about one a day again. My doctor tells me at every OB appt to not stop drinking it because I get terrible headaches. I would never go over two cups a day, but didn't pre pregnancy either.
  • I have not had a single cup of coffee since I've been pregnant (a couple chai tea lattes on special occasions but that's it).  I think I have a caffeine addiction so I just figured it was better to quit cold turkey and it has been SO HARD!  I'm just not sure I can stop at one cup in the morning though.  I usually go through at least two Trentas from Starbucks to give you an idea of how much I drink!

Pre-pregnancy I used to drink one (large) cup of coffee a day.  After my BFP, I tried to quit cold turkey but I got wicked migraines. I talked to my Ob who said tylenol was ok for them but instead recommended that I just start having a cup of coffee a day instead.  I still felt I should cut down so now I have a 5 oz (vs. my regular 12 oz mug) of coffee made with half caff and half decaf grounds...  Somehow that makes me feel a little better about drinking it (plus I feel like I can still have some chocolate with less coffee :)

  • I pretty much only drink decaf cappuccino while preggers. Or decaf coffee...

  • I used to be a 3-5 venti coffees a day kind of girl and then I dropped to zero when I found out. I'm back up to one small cup or regular or half caff most work days. Not only is it helpful for getting my mornings going at work but it helps keep my GI system moving. Kind of gross but oh so necessary!
This is sooooo true. TMI but it keeps me regular which is so helpful since pregnancy isn't too kind to that situation.

  • I used to drink so much coffee that my pee would smell like Folgers...ha ha......I have been limiting myself to one cup per day.   I usually don't even finish my cup.     I had an iced coffee yesterday and DAMN was it yummy......since I am unsure of the caffeine in coffee from Sheetz,  I got decaf,  but added a shot of espresso.      Google says a shot of espresso has about 60 mgs of caffeine,  which is well under the safe limit.    It tasted just like full octane coffee.   it was soooo yummy!!   :)

I definitely had a coffee addiction pre pregnancy. I could go through pots a day. I love it! So cutting to one cup a coffee a day is hard. I did try to cut it cold turkey in the very beginning, but around 8 or 9 weeks I just couldn't do it anymore, because I have to wake up at 4 am for my job!
So kudos to you for sticking through it :)

  • Before the BFP I had about two cups a day, but since about 5 weeks in I've just been too nauseous. I had a really good day this weekend and had a cup of coffee - it was glorious! But since then, back to nausea and coffee not sounding good. Dammit.

Aw I hope you nausea goes away. FWIW mine completely dissappeared overnight around 13w 5d so there is still hope for you!

See, I figured I gave up nicotine and alcohol that day (not to mention deli meat and un-pasteurized soft cheeses and bagged salad...yes, I'm one of those) cold turkey, so what's one more thing.

  • I voted ss because I have a travel mug sz of decaf coffee most every day. The only reason I don't drink reg coffee is because I know I wouldn't be able to limit my intake. I'm pretty sure I'm a caffeine addict.

  • No coffee, as it's never been a daily thing for me anyway. I do drink coke if I need a pick me up or have a headache. Some weeks, that means I have two a day, other weeks I don't have any at all.

  • I was a coffee addict, but now it is an aversion so I have to hide it in hot chocolate (sad, I know).  I need it though, or else the headaches bring on even more nausea and it's just not worth it.  My dr. also said it was fine (within moderation), so I'd say I try to get a cup in per day.
  • Before ds i drank so much coffee. Then i got pregnant with ds, quite cold turkey. After ds was born i started drinking one cup a day. When i got pregnant with this one i stopped my one cup a day. I know it's fine, but i feel like if I didn't drink any with ds i can go without this time too. It will be wonderful to go back to one a day once baby is born though. I'd drink more than one cup but the breastfeeding, don't need a wired overstimulated infant.

  • Thanks, @ineedmorecoffee! My new mantra is "2nd tri is almost here, 2nd tri is almost here" - and the MS hasn't been TOO bad. At least it's limited to nausea. :)

  • I used to be a 1 cup a day gal. Now it's a couple cups during the month. It makes me nauseous somedays and others I feel fine drinking it.

  • special snowflake here. i used to drink double latte's everyday and occasically regular coffee before bfp. i've since ost my taste for coffee/lattes but rekindled my romance with tea. i'll drink 1 tea a day. ive been craving soda SO much and have to refrain from drinking a coke every day. i'll have one 1 or 2 times week on top on my daily tea. i feel guilty also since so many women on here say they have given it up altogether but i need my caffeine and it's still under the allowable amount..

  • I don't drink any, but then I don't drink it when I'm not pregnant anyway. I cut out all caffeine in middle school when I was getting caffeine withdrawal headaches. Since then I don't even drink soda.

  • I loooove my coffee. I voted one cup per day, but what I actually do is brew half decaf and half coffee so that I can have two cups and not feel so deprived :)

  • I used to have a double espresso every day, but since BFP I drink protein shakes in the morning. A few times a month I'll get an iced chai latte as a treat.
  • I voted SS.

I am currently not drinking coffee because it makes me pukey however I've been thinking about trying it again.  I'll probably have a cup or two/day once I get back into it.
    This is me exactly.
  • I've been doing a decaf whenever I want coffee. I used to do 2-3 cups a day before BFP, and stopped cold turkey. Not nearly as bad as I thought!

  • I'm a tea drinker but I occasionally drink lattes or iced cappuccinos so I replied the couple of times per month option. I wasn't going to indulge in the iced coffees this summer but they're just so delish!
  • The smell of coffee still makes me nauseous so I'm sure the taste would. That being said I'm not avoiding caffeine like I did with DD. I am craving coke like crazy and I'm not usually a big soda drinker.

I have never liked coffee, but I do drink a big ice tea every day and then sometimes a coke.  I think I am usually about the 200 mg limit.

Completely agree! We brew half caff at our house and then if I really want some more, I keep decaf Via at my desk.  I need the "regularity" of coffee :)
  • SS: I have one cup of half caf in the morning and 20 oz of half caf iced tea at lunch.

  • I drink one cup in the morning on my way to work and 1 cup when I come back from work in the mid afternoon. Lately I can't stomach the 2nd cup
  • One cup in the morning and that's usually it.  Sometimes I might have a small Coke or a half-decaf iced coffee in the afternoon.  I used to be a Coke Zero fiend and I've totally cut that out--initially I thought I would switch to caffeine free soda, but I just haven't wanted it as much.  I hope this will be a permanent change.

  • I used to drink 2 cups a day before BFP. The way I found out I needed to test myself was I started getting nauseous when I drank it. So now I just have a cup of hot tea in the mornings and sometimes an herbal tea at night. The new iced drinks at Starbucks with the cookie crumbles is really looking good so maybe there is a bright side for the summer.

  • I voted SS because pre-pregnancy I drank coffee all day long. Approx one week before my bfp I stopped being able to drink more than a few sips without feeling gross. I'd say most days I drink none. Some days I have a few sips of the free office coffee.

  • I used to drink 3 monster energy drinks a day, now I drink a cup of coffee a few times a month. Had a small cup this morning and can't fall asleep tonight!
  • I usually have a latte or two daily. FI used to work as a barista at a local coffee shop so he makes me a latte every single morning. Now I can't really tolerate lattes. :( so I am drinking a half cup of French press coffee just for morning caffiene. I do still find myself headachey so I might try to amp up the coffee a bit more or see if I can tolerate iced lattes. Rest of the day it's just water or iced tea.
  • SS here. I don't drink coffee for the caffine, just for the taste. I treat myself to one medium decaf iced coffee from dunkin donuts almost every Sunday. Sometimes two a week if work takes me to starbucks.

  • I've never liked the taste of coffee so I get my caffeine from coke, and I probably drink about 2 glasses of that a day.

  • Oh Man,  I am a coffee junkieeeeeeeeee.   I drank coffee all day long before my BFP.  Last pregnancy I stuck with one cup in the a.m.  Then a small iced coffee on the way to work.  I was a bar manager ( non smoking bar ) so I worked long/late hours.  I needed it.  This time around I couldn't even think about coffee without getting nauseous, until a few weeks ago.  Coffee keeps me very regular, so when I couldn't drink it I NEVER pooped.  It was traumatizing.  Thank god its back in my life.  Thank god.
