Hello, my name is Kim and I am 18 weeks pregnant. I just got hired at stop N shop and I was suppose to start work Tuesday. My boss does not know i'm preggo, and I do not plan on telling her. There was a clue that maybe she thinks I am because she said I can change my W2 if I have another baby this year.
So my first day yesterday, I was suppose to be in at 9 AM and had trouble getting up so I got in at 9:15 AM and I know that is late and apologized right away. She sent me home.
Then today, I left earlier and got there at 5 past 9 AM and got the same reaction if not worse. She then told me to go home again and said they don't really need me that bad and I have not started working for the Union yet, I am not an employee. I filled out all my paperwork, can she really fire me before I even start? She told me to come back tomorrow again at 2:30 to talk to her supervisor to decide what to do. I have had a lot of jobs and I have never been treated this way by a boss, especially the first week. I am really trying and really need this job, but do not like the disrespect that is already starting. It is just plain humiliating! Please help!
Re: Just hired and already having problems!
You really need to get your shit together and show up to work ON TIME, preferably early. It's extremely disrespectful to be late, even more-so your first few days of work, and it shows you don't care about the job.
I really don't know how we can help you. It was on you to show up late, just think when the baby gets here. In the post you said "another" baby. Are you already a mom? Really you just need to organize your time a little better. Everyone understands things happen, but on the first two days? Doesn't give you a good reputation in the work place. I would have made sure to definitely leave way ahead of time for the first day.
If you reside in a no-fault state they certainly are well within ther rights to fire you. Good luck with the job hunt.
You need to do some soul searching
This (and your "humiliation") are not your boss's fault. The best thing you can do is own up to your mistakes, accept the consequences, and learn to be a better employee from it.
Pregnant or not-- being late is an offense that will get you fired at any job at any time.

As an employee i expect people the be on time so I can leave and pick up my son from school...the later you are the longer I have to stay and cover and a lot of times your 15 minutes means no lunch for me and late pickup for my son so I'd certainly be pissed if you did it 2 days in a row. You've already shown this job isn't required for you.
