I'm a teacher so my last day is June 12th at 35w2d. I would work longer if my schedule wasn't made up for me by the school year. My due date is July 15th.

  • My last day was supposed to be coming Friday, but I was asked to come in once a week for as long as I can. So I'll be working part time throughout June or until the baby comes. I'm excited about it because it beats sitting at home, waiting.

Then after 4 months of maternity leave I will probably continue working Mondays only.
  • working until doc says otherwise.

One of you california people has to fill me in on how to get the 4 weeks and 16 weeks - I thought we only got 12 weeks? I was planning to cheat a little and work through the 3rd, take my holiday pay on the 4th and then start my leave on the 7th since I'm due the 9th, but I'd love to go a couple weeks early if it doesn't count against my 12 (16?!) weeks! Is the 16 week FMLA unpaid and paid through STD?
Both my ob and my HR person told me that, in Ca, if your company qualifies for FMLA, you can take up to 4 weeks before and up to 12 weeks after (maybe 14 for a CS?? I'm not sure how that plays in to it) paid at roughly 55%. It's also my understanding that you are paid 55% per day, but get paid 7 days a week. So, it comes out to more than 55%. (Per a combo of info from my ob and 2 co-workers who had babies this year). I have a meeting at the hospital to start setting this up on Thursday, so hopefully I will come out knowing more.
Sorry. This CA girl (me) was wrong on the 16 weeks. The above post is correct. 4 before, 12 after. I was combining the two and thinking 16 weeks after in addition to the 4. However, nice to know that the 55% is 7 days per week... a little extra doesn't hurt!
  • I've been planning on working up till my EDD which is July 9th. But now I am super uncomfortable and not wanting to be at work already at 34 weeks, so I am going to just see how I'm progressing at my appt the week of June 30th and if they think I am going to go into labor on my own then I may have July 3rd be my last day.

If it looks like I am going to go past my due date I'll probably work till July 11th. (Depending on what my doctor says of course)

I am grateful though, my boss will be paying me for however long I am out (i'm only planning on take 6 weeks after LO is born) and has already told me not to feel like I have to work up until the day I deliver.
  • I'm a home health aid and just stopped at almost 35 weeks

Last i looked into it, you could take the 12 weeks after but it wasn't all paid. 6 to 8 weeks is paid but not the full 12. Where/what/when did you see the 12 weeks paid? 12 weeks is covered under FMLA but none of the time is paid. The Paid Family Leave Act will pay out 6 to 8 weeks depending on delivery. Also FMLA protects your job, PFL doesn't.

I would love to take a full 12 instead but since i am the only one working i only planned on 6 or 8 because that is what the state will pay me for as far as i know.

  • Ill be 34 weeks with twins on Friday and today was my last day. Yay!!! Being on my feet all day then running after my 2 year old was way too much.
  • Last time I worked up until the day of my induction, at 41 weeks. I will work right up til the end this time too. Saving all my leave for when I really need it.

This was in the paper work that my HR person gave me - it was a pamphlet from EDD. Both my co-workers who have had babies this year were paid for the full time. One took the full 16 weeks and one took 10 after the baby arrived.
  • I've got 5 weeks to go, I'm stopping just before 38 weeks :)
  • Today was my last day of school until I go back at the end of September! I will be going into work the rest of the week and best week to get my new room set up and to get sub plans in order. So done with working.

I'm in CA also and work at a school district. For some reason, they say that FMLA will run concurrently with my doctor's note (which is usually 4 weeks prior and 8 weeks after for vaginal delivery and 10 weeks after for C-Section). That doesn't work out to be the full 16 weeks I am entitled to?! But then when I am reading about it, FMLA is based on a pregnancy-related disability, which would make sense to run along with the doctor's note. I also get CFRA which is 12 weeks in a 12 month period for bonding time, unpaid. So, I guess I shouldn't complain. But I would rather have the FMLA paid time then go into non-paid CFRA unnecessarily...

I guess I need to ask more questions at work...but thanks to everyone for their input.

I have been in 3rd trimester hell and my OB was going to write me off today but I need to get some stuff done before I take leave so I talked her into writing me a note for half days until the 36 week mark.

For CA moms, I found this really helpful:

Page 14 has a great visual showing the timeline.
  • I believe I am being induced on July 3rd so I think my last day is going to be June 27th this way I have a few days to settle all things until this little lady bug arrives LOL

  • With my first, I worked until 5pm the day I was induced.  This pregnancy is kicking my ass and I'll only be 32 weeks tomorrow. I may call my last day before I have this one since I'll likely have a RCS. NJ is similar to CA with disability benefits.

i'm having pregnancy induced hypertension indications (which will most likely mean early baby), and feeling really rough, so my docs wanted to take me out last friday. i told them though that my company is generally really good with working with people, and since the only other person in my department just started 3 weeks ago, i thought i'd be nice and work part time in the office training and part time home getting things completed off the list.

instead, tomorrow will be my last day because no one is trying to work with me! they want special notes from the doc, and are asking me to basically run in circles, in addition to piling shit on my plate for 'before i leave'. i'm sooo ready.

  • I own my own business and my occupation is a coach so I will work until I am told I cannot anymore or until I go into labor. I will be back at work after a week but it will be with LO in tow so that works out just fine.
