How long do you plan on working?

So I am almost 35weeks.....and I am just about DONE with working. I am so over it/uncomfortable/feel like a ticking time bomb....I just want to be on the couch, in my jammies 24/7. Doesn't help I am a nurse and on my feet alot at work, which is getting very difficult. Am I the only one who is OVER IT?!?!?!?

Re: How long do you plan on working?

  • Nope, I'm completely over it as well.
I teach so I officially have 16 days left until my kiddies graduate. I am counting down!

    hi

  • I'm due the 16th and don't plan to go back in after 4th of July

  • Not sure. I honestly would be happy being done now. My BP has been really low the entire time though so probably the earliest would be 36 weeks, but we'll see.

I have bi-weekly NST starting at 34 weeks in addition to the regular doc appointments and that is going to be a massive hassle to fit into my work schedule. Not sure how the hell i am going to deal with that.

But i also don't officially have anyone to replace me so that is a whole bushel of fun to deal with.

My OB recommended working up until it's go time, but I...just don't know about that.  Summer is the craziest time at my job, and there are already days where getting up from my chair is taxing.

After talking to my hubby, we're currently planning for me to take off the week before the EDD.  So that would mean I'd get to chill out for week 39 until baby comes.  If baby comes sooner for any reason, of course, that idea is tossed out!

I found out the week I take off before still has to count against my FMLA even if I wanted to take it just as vacation, so that's one less week of the 12 FMLA gives me which has me a little sad.  But realistically I don't see myself easily waddling around my job at the craziest time of the year at 39 weeks so it's probably best for baby and for me.

  • I have 8 more school days to go with these little gremlins... then basically a week of training/stuff. I cannot wait to be done for the summer.

  • My due date is July 5th and I'm not planning on going back after the 4th. I just have to make sure that the days I take as "vacation" before going into labor don't count against my FMLA time.

  • I'm the same as @TheAnne‌ and @tundrabunny‌. I'm working until the end because any time now goes against FMLA and I want to save that for when baby is here. Doesn't mean I haven't checked out a bit (especially since my replacement started 2 weeks ago and is basically up to speed at this point).

It's amazing how different FMLA is! Here, we can take up to 16 weeks total. Up to 4 before and up to 12 after. I had planned on taking week 39 off. But, my ob informed me that was not going to happen 2 weeks ago. She told me 36 is a good time for people without complications and I am sitting on 4. So, she's letting me work until 36 weeks, which means I have 8 working days left. Ack! But, the bi-weekly NST's, weekly ob appts and every other week growth scans will all be far easier to schedule once I don't have to work around my office schedule.
  • My OB wants me to stop at 36 weeks (which is this coming Saturday for me).  I am so over working and want to stop, but there are several deadlines on a few cases where I'm the one with primary responsibility and there isn't anyone as knowledgeable as me to take over.  I have a desk job though.. or... ever since I started having contractions... a work from my couch job ;-)  I feel bad saying I can't help get this stuff done when technically I CAN.  Stopping early in my case doesn't affect my leave after so really the only reason I'd still be working is because I don't want to leave anyone in a bind.

Well first off I am not coming back to work after LO comes. My replacement was hired a couple mos ago and is doing a bang-up job on her own. In fact she is doing so well that I was able to go from FT to PT (24 hours per week to keep benefits) since we were pretty over staffed once she was up and running on her own.

My job is being great about keeping me employed to keep benies and I'm pitching in with other departments/special projects to keep busy while I'm here since I don't do much with my old position besides the occasional question or issue. I plan on working through the second week of July (due 7/22) just to keep the extra funds coming in before we switch to one income. Also helps work with vacation coverage for the 4th of July for a couple people in the department going out of town. Of course, all that assuming health keeps on track.

My last day will be July 18th. RCS is the 22nd. Unless the doctor takes me out sooner...or baby decides to make her appearance sooner.

  • I was planning on working up until my due date (7/18) but my husband have me a thumbs up to stop working and spend the summer with our 3 year old and have some quality time together. So this Thursday is my last day! (I will be 33 weeks on Friday)

At first I had mixed emotions about not working but I feel like a whale and I just want to be able to sleep in and hang out with my daughter while she is still an only child.

I work for a small company so I don't get paid maternity leave or any of that. But I still don't plan on returning to work 2 days a week until the end of october

  • I'm starting leave about 2 weeks before. My OB said I can work as long as I want, but working in construction, I don't think waddling around a Construction site that far along would make me that comfortable.

  • Going to talk to DH soon. I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow, and I'm going to suggest working through the week before I'm due. I know it's possible I'll be late so that's why I have some reservations. But mentally I'm at a point where I need to have some end in sight. I'm definitely checked out, there's so much BS going on in my office, I wouldn't mind some time focusing on my baby girl and our time together before her birth without the noise of all the drama during the day.
  • I was going to work until the day I delivered until today, when my OB sent me to L+D today due to elevated BP... awesome. Im only 31 weeks. She wants to take me out indefinitely but Im hoping to relax and hydrate til my next appointment and go back to work for at least a few weeks!
  • I would LOVE to go out a couple of weeks early, I'm starting to check out and get more tired and uncomfortable. But I can't, I have too much to do and can't take that much leave. I'm the primary income and only get 6 weeks paid leave, so I can't take a whole lot more than that total, let alone before LO gets here. So I'm working until my due date.
  • I'm over work, but I also would rather use my PTO on my babycation instead.  So, I'm working until I'm in labor.

I live in CA and it's the same here, if we're talking paid leave (of course, paid means half of your usual income). I'm doing the same, 4 weeks before, 16 weeks after. My FMLA and the other CA benefits mean that I can take up to 7 mos if I want, but only 4 would be "paid". I'm completely ready to be off work. I'm doing better physically than I am mentally - my work is seriously stressful (real estate). Over it.
  • The day I pop given they are going to get rid of me 3 days after I give birth anyway.  I am not covered by FMLA, pretty sure not covered by Pregnancy disability act given that they have no policy even about STD and they have less than 20 employees.

  • I'm so done with work. We have 14 more teaching days in my high school and then another 2 weeks of testing and meeting until I'm finally done on June 28th. In addition I've been coaching the track team since March and I've got about another week or so of that left as well. I'm almost 34 weeks and haven't had any problems with my pregnancy, however I'm officially uncomfortable. I feel like the little engine that could..."I think I can, I think I can..."
  • In NJ you get 4wks prior to due date and its a use it or loose it you cannot tack that time on at the end, so I am using it. Full pay to sit on the couch I am in. I am only 33wks so I have 3wks left to go. My temp should be starting hopefully soon because I am over it I am so mentally checked out its not even funny.
  • I wish I could take off a little early, but I'm with some of the others and I want to have as much time with her after she's born as I can. So, I will be working until they tell me I can't anymore! My leave will pretty much all be unpaid, with the exception of one week of vacation I will take so I at least have a little extra $$ coming during my leave. I was hoping to start working from home the week before my due date, but they are dragging their feet on getting me my home office setup, so I don't think that will be an option anymore.

Same as other pp, I'm over working as well. I'm sore and just exhausted because I'm tossing and turning all night like a rotisserie chicken! I have saved up 3 weeks sick time, so I may take advantage of that toward the end of June.

  • I work for the family catering company which is nice because it lets me be flexible. I plan on working until I can't anymore, or until my boss (dad) can't really use me anymore. I'm 33 weeks now. At 30 weeks I stopped taking lunch deliveries. Now I'm still in the kitchen and run the office when needed. My belly and I are mostly in the way in the kitchen these days so my days there are probably numbered. My guess would be 36 weeks or so and then I will just do office work from my house.

Like PPs, I'm working til the very end. I'm a nurse as well and these 12 hr shifts are rough! I can't work 3 in a row anymore because I'm barely able to walk after 2 in a row. I'm hanging in there though because the more time I spend working pregnant means the more time I get to spend at home with baby girl.

  • One of you california people has to fill me in on how to get the 4 weeks and 16 weeks - I thought we only got 12 weeks? I was planning to cheat a little and work through the 3rd, take my holiday pay on the 4th and then start my leave on the 7th since I'm due the 9th, but I'd love to go a couple weeks early if it doesn't count against my 12 (16?!) weeks! Is the 16 week FMLA unpaid and paid through STD?

  • Until next Tuesday, the last day teachers are required to work. Cannot wait!
  • The plan is to work until June 30th, start FMLA on July 1st and my RCS is July 2nd. Hoping I can do it! 5 more weeks!

I have an in home daycare and my DS is 3. I'll be working until I go into labor. I don't get any leave, so my time off will be after baby comes.
I'm currently 31 weeks....tired but feeling as good as expected.

Edited: because my phone posted too soon
  • I also thought CA was only 12 (4 weeks extra only if you had a c section) . Fill me in please I wonder if I'm doing this wrong? My last two boys I only took paid family leave for 6 weeks. This time around I plan to take full advantage! I'm planning on stopping June 27, 3 weeks before my due date.

Both my ob and my HR person told me that, in Ca, if your company qualifies for FMLA, you can take up to 4 weeks before and up to 12 weeks after (maybe 14 for a CS?? I'm not sure how that plays in to it) paid at roughly 55%.

It's also my understanding that you are paid 55% per day, but get paid 7 days a week. So, it comes out to more than 55%. (Per a combo of info from my ob and 2 co-workers who had babies this year).

I have a meeting at the hospital to start setting this up on Thursday, so hopefully I will come out knowing more.
