hitting head - temper tantrum

my daughter is 18 months and just started hitting her head everytime she throws a tantrum. Is this normal? Does anyone else's child do this?

Re: hitting head - temper tantrum

  • Very normal.  She will not hit her head hard enough to hurt her self.  Just make sure she's somewhere safe and ignore.

When a tantrum is starting, pick her up bring her to another room, lie her on the floor and walk away.  Don't make eye contact and don't speak to her.  This prevents her from dropping and hitting her head, it takes away the dramatic flop to the floor and takes away the audience.  She will soon find that tantrums get no attention and when they get no attention they usually are not worth continuing.

  • Oh my gosh my son does the say thing. He stands on his feet and hits his head on the floor! It looks like it hurts but I usually lay him on his back and walk away. Lol!
