Maternity Clothes

Why are maternity clothes so darn ugly? *ick. I'd love to see a shopruche.com for maternity clothes. I'd go nuts on that. Any of you ladies want to start one with me? :P

I'm starting to build a list of sites that offer maternity clothes and keeping an eye on sales on these sites now as they have WINTER maternity clothes on SUPER DUPER sales currently, so that will save me money to buy now rather than full price come fall for winter stuff. Any other ladies thought about this yet? Any sites to add to the list?

Re: Maternity Clothes

  • I found that a lot of stores had cute maternity clothes. Nothing like what our mothers who have to wear - moomoo's with frilly bows, ha-ha.

For my first pregnancy I bought a lot of clothing from the Pea in the Pod line.

All my maternity shirts (all 3 of them, lol) are from Kohls. They had some really cute ones, even though I detest 3/4 sleeves. I was like, wth why can't we get full-length sleeved sweaters?? My pants (two jeans and two dress pants) are from Motherhood Maternity. They were expensive, but sooo worth it. SO glad for some reason I did not get rid of my  maternity stuff even though I got rid of most of all the tiny baby stuff already!
    OMG too many tickers...

  • I got about 3 winter shirts/sweaters and a pair of jeans on major sale from H&M for $60 and 2 shirts for $20 from Old Navy. Thank you winter clearance!

  • I have seen some flowy clothes at forever 21 and they would be cheap since I would only wear them for few months..I used Ross store last time for alot and Target has some cute stuff. I love Kohls and you can always get coupons etc. Somebody told me too to try plus sizes tops so it will be cuter than some maternity stuff at motherhood maternity-too many patterns sometimes and what looks cute prego might not after baby but you still will not fit into regular clothes trust me--9 months on 9 months or more to get the weight off.

I hear what you're saying but that wasn't the case for me and I don't think it will be for everyone. I was back to pre-preg weight by the time I went back to work at 8 weeks.

  • When referred to as 'flowy clothes'... does that mean something like this? https://www.victoriassecret.com/clothing/dresses-sale/foldover-multi-way-maxi-dress?ProductID=160169&CatalogueType=OLS (crosses fingers)

  • I got a handful of stuff on Burlington Coat Factory's clearance rack. A lot of their stuff is ugly, but I found a few hidden gems. Mostly bottoms. I hate hate being uncomfortable - so I'll switch to maternity as soon as I feel that way. I already wore my new shorts yesterday - but they were so comfy, and more for end of first tri/second tri (not the full belly).

I also have a Motherhood Maternity Outlet near me, so I may head there to see their clearance rack.
  • I would like to add do not be fooled by maternity maxi skirts with the fold down/stretchy waist. You do not need them in maternity. Old navy sells maternity maxi skirts and I think it is dumb. A couple of regular maxi skirts with fold down wastes will work just fine as you can fold it below your belly.

Same, by 8 weeks things were back to fitting normally. I was almost the same weight (had 6lbs to lose) right after but it took a little while for my hips to go back!
  • joujouwish thanks for the list!

Ann Taylor Loft has maternity clothes too.
  • What is the sizing like at H&M maternity? I find their regular clothing to run very small, so I'm assuming the mat clothes do too?

I wear mostly the same size in their regular clothes as I do in their maternity so whatever size you buy, you could probably get away with that same size in maternity or try 1 size up. Some of their stuff I find does run very small like skirts and pants but I wear the same size in their tops as I do stores like Old Navy and Target.

I got a lot of cute stuff from Old Navy, Kohls, and Target with my first two. Although most of those clothes were dress clothes for work and I am going to stay home. Plus my girls were born in March so I am going to need warm weather clothes for end of summer and beginning of fall when it is still warm out.

I was a freak of nature with DD.  I brought maternity clothes to wear home because everyone said I'd need them.  Nope.  My pants fell down as I was getting into the car to leave.  I was only up 8 lbs after DD was born.  I ended up with more amniotic fluid than they thought I had and DD was 8.5 lbs.

As far as maternity clothes, I inherited a ton of fancy nice ones that are cuter than anything I would normally own because my cousin is a super girly fashiony person and sent me hers after her last pregnancy when I found out I was pregnant with DD.  So... Recycling them again.  haha.  A few of it is I think Target (Liz Lang Maternity) and some of it is Motherhood Maternity.

Really, the problem for me isn't finding cute stuff, it's justifying the cost for a few months of wear.  I was so grateful to get them from my cousin.  haha.

  • I love skirts with fold over waists! I agree maternity version is not needed. I wore my normal ones all throughout my pregnancy. I love that they are so cute and comfy.

  • thoughts on the Bellaband? I'm thinking it may help stretch out time i can wear my normal dress pants. maternity dress pants are not cute.
  • How do h&m sizes run? they have some cute stuff for good prices but Ive never shopped there even for regular clothes. At motherhood I wear large tops and medium bottoms

  • My first pregnancy I got a BFP in June 2010. I am still rocking maternity clothes from then...pregnant or not. Because I'm just too lazy for non-elastic waistbands.

    Failure.

  • I just hit up Kohls maternity clearance rack for winter shirts. I can't believe how expensive maternity clothes are. I also heard that Ross as really good deals on clothes also. Now that i have a few basic tops I'll probably wait till I'm farther along to buy anything else. I'm sure I'll be rocking the sweat pants and tank tops for most of my time anyways ;)

  • lunamishka, you smart girl :)
  • Maybe I'm in the minority, but I find a lot of the things to be quite cute. Very simple, but I appreciate that.

I am a cheapo! So while scouring the internet I came across Swap.com just now. Found Old Navy jeans for $5 and Liz Lange Shorts for $6. I can't wait to see what they look like. Did I mention free shipping?  Plus I am making a bunch of my own maternity tops from tops I already own and adding the elastic to the sides to give it the scrunched up look.Thank you pinterest!

**update...swap.com gives you free shipping on first time orders!

I second the post about Burlington Coat Factory. I stocked up on a bunch of tops from there for super cheap. I think $70 total for 9 tops or something. They're running really good deals on winter stuff right now.
