Measuring 4 weeks ahead?

I know it would seem an obvious question to ask the dr when she told me she's sending me for an ultrasound because I've been measuring 4 weeks ahead for a few months but it didn't dawn on me until I left her office. (Damn pregnancy brain) Does anyone know what this will mean for me if the ultrasound confirms I am measuring 4 weeks ahead?

Re: Measuring 4 weeks ahead?

  • It depends. Most likely the four week measurement was based on fundal height? The ultrasound may show it to be not so bad. They can measure the size of the baby and also the approximate amount of fluid. But ultrasounds can still be very off.

If you are really that large they may still adjust your due date and discuss induction.

Have you been tested for GD?

  • Do you know when you ovulated? If you had irregular periods and don't know when you ovulated then I could see the discrepancy, but 4 weeks seems like a big change.

That's crazy you say that! I also just measured 4 weeks ahead at my appt last Thursday and have a measurement ultrasound for tomorrow. Their thinking large baby. I had a huge growth spurt in the last couple of weeks, went from measuring 2 weeks ahead to 4 in a week and a half. I had my glucose testing and all that came back good. I have heard that it could be extra amniotic fluid? I only missed one period so I assumed my due date was pretty darn accurate. I guess we will see tomorrow... Good luck to you :)
  • Good luck at your ultrasound!

I'm the other way measuring 3-4 weeks behind in fundal height, usually it's the position of the baby. I think on your side they may be most concerned if you have too much fluid. If baby is measuring ahead, it may all even out in the end they may just keep an eye on it.
  • My GD test came back good. I had measured 4 weeks ahead according to my doctor for two months. I recently went to a 3d ultrasound where they told me the baby was measuring 3 weeks ahead so that's what prompted me to ask my dr and I guess because the ultrasound measured the baby to be ahead she decided I should go for a growth ultrasound. My dates were def not off I was clockwork and using a tracker app. My husband was a 10 pound baby so I'm assuming the baby is just taking after daddy but I'm wondering what happens if this is the case.

I'm also measuring four weeks ahead, but the doctor didn't seem concerned at all. Not even doing a sonogram. My mom had extra amniotic fluid with me, I think, so that might be the cause.

  • Do any of you have uterine fibroids?  We discovered that I have 3 decent sized ones at my 20 week anatomy scan.  The OB said that because of them my fundal height measurements would always likely be ahead of where we actually are.  They will be doing a growth US in a few weeks to make sure baby is the appropriate size because the fundal measurements won't be accurate in my case.

  • I'm feelin' you ladies! I am 30 wks and was told at my appt today that I am measuring 3 weeks ahead and was told to get an ultrasound for my next visit. Dr told me that my belly had measured 2cm over on my last visit and 3cm over on this visit. She said it was most likely either extra fluid or a big baby, but the ultrasound will help to tell.
Now I'm freaked out that we will deliver early and I have major project work to finish at work before going on leave!

I had my additional measurement ultra sound today... Everything is good. My stomach measured 4 weeks ahead last week, today baby measured 2 weeks ahead. They said I just have extra fluid but they aren't concerned about it at all. I will probably have a large baby anyways, my husband is very tall and is not a stick! It was fun being able to see my baby again:)
  • Awesome glad to hear everything was great :)
