Trouble TTC

HSG During Period

Hi!  Has anyone else had their tubes flushed/HSG during their period?  If so, how was it?

My doctor scheduled mine for tomorrow, which will be day 3 of my cycle.  I did double check when making the apt, and they said it was OK, but I'm not so sure! Doesn't seem like that would be very pleasant for the doctor!

 Thanks Ladies :)

Re: HSG During Period

  • I had mine on CD 7 with some *very* light brown spotting, and the RE said was fine. The nurse actually tried to schedule it for CD 5, but when I told her I was still bleeding, she said I had to wait until I was done "actively" bleeding. Maybe every doctor is different though. Good luck!

  • My doc also said you had to be done bleeding.  I wouldn't not worry about grossing out the doctor, but I would want to have an accurate test.

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • Mine told me they were ok with spotting but not full flow. However, if they said it was fine it might be. I'd just call to make sure as you don't want to "waste" this very expensive test and have to redo it.

  • I had mine on CD5, I think. It's totally normal to still be bleeding and my nurse/doc totally expected it. I was still pretty mortified because the table looked like a murder scene afterward (sorry TMI).

This is what I've read in my research. It's specifically done after you're done bleeding and before you ovulate.

  • At my first appt with my RE he was going to go ahead and do my HSG, but when I told him I was still bleeding he said we couldn't do it until after.

  • I just had mine today on CD7. I was still having a teensy bit of spotting. My facility said I should be done with my period before having the procedure done.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice! I guess I will just go to my apt. and double check AGAIN that they are 100% sure it do-able.  I wasn't even thinking about the cost, if it doesn't work!

  • My RE had me schedule mine after AF but before CD12. Definitely double check. I hated the HSG & would not want to have to repeat it.

  • I was told mine had to be done between CD5 and CD12.

  • *Update....Just in case anyone else comes across this in the same situation....

I went to my apt. today (on CD 3) and my doctor did the procedure.  He said it was no big deal to still be on my period, and everything went great!  No problems with the picture, and not even that messy!

I guess every doctor has their own timeframe for doing the HSG, though I think the most important thing is to do it before anyone could be pregnant!

  • My appt is tomorrow and I am just spotting, no full flow. Its not even coming down on my pad (tmi) so 10am. Wish me luck ladies!!
