  Honestly, the headwings were an issue for my kids. They left no room at all for their shoulders, so I vote for the model without that (we have one with and one without and as they got bigger my kids greatly preferred the one without).

  
  

  As far as the booster, all models of radian have the same exact shell, there are just different supports to allow a slightly heavier harnessed kid in some and the headwings as an extra in the other. None make a good booster because the shell isn't tall enough. In order to be used in booster mode a child must be a minimum of 50 lbs. Both of my kids (and most kids I know) will outgrow the booster mode height (tops of ears even with the top of the shell) quite a while before hitting the 50 lb minimum to even use the seat as a booster. For my oldest there was a 2 year span where she had outgrown the harness/shell for height and had not hit 50 lbs. My middle one outgrow the shell about a year ago and hasn't hit 50 lbs yet.

  
  

  That said, the radian will get most kids to a safe age to use a dedicated booster seat, which is significantly less expensive than a harnessed seat. So it's still a great seat from birth (or whenever the child outgrows the infant seat) until booster age.
