Diapers and formula per month

The plan is to breast feed as long as possible. With my 1st, he lasted 1month because I wasn't producing enough. Hopefully this time will b different.

Anyways, if I do need to switch to formula; how many of those tubs do you buy a month for twins?

How many boxes of diapers do you go through with twins?

Overall, how much $ do you spend on those two items alone?

Suggestions of where you shop for these lrg quantity buys? BJ's, Walmart, Amazon Mom, ect.

My hubby and I are planning our new budget once the lil ones arrive. Especially with me being out of work, we really need to watch every dollar spent until I go back; if I go back . . .

I can tell you that we go through a can is similac every 2-3 days. We also change approximately 22 diapers a day. We change at very feeding and some others throughout the day. I'm not sure what we're spending on anything as my husband keeps up with that. My babies are 4w old. Since they were born we've gone through 8 cans of formula (they ate less at first). I've been trying to pump and give them some breast milk, but I don't have much milk. Hope this helps!

Mine is only a guesstimate on formula since I've had two singletons and I FF from the beginning. I spent an average of $100/month on formula for each of them. This time around for the twins I'm starting out budgeting $200/month for formula. I've also started collecting coupons from friends that also helped with the cost in the past. Diapers, I have no idea and can't remember. A lot...LOL.

Diapers: $65 (average) per month for 10month old twins and a 2 year old. I buy either Target brand or Luvs, depending on the sale. Target often has buy 3 boxes get $10 back (add in Cartwheel for extra savings) so we stock up then. Otherwise I just stick with my Amazon SNS and have a jumbo box of Luvs delivered monthly. Diapers will cost more in the beginning and come in smaller packages, I went through 10-12 per day per newborn. I buy Costco brand wipes, about 1 case every 6-8 weeks.

Formula: We started supplementing within the first month so we went through less than 2 cans per week. Now we're switching to FF and can go through a standard small can (12oz I think) in 2 days. We buy the big Enfamil tubs at Costco or the bulk generic brand ones. Walmart's is $21 for a big tub that lasts us about a week. Target has sales like the diaper one on all formula at least once per month plus Cartwheel discount of 5%-10% on their brand. Call Similac and Enfamil and ask about their twin programs, if they still run them. From what I heard, they should send you several cans of samples plus regular coupons.

We used disposables in the beginning and went through 3 boxes of newborn + 1 package of preemie, 2 boxes of size 1 and so far 1 box of size 2. We are now using cloth diapers and cloth wipes with just a disposable at night until the 2nd box of size 2 is gone. So diapering will cost us basically water and whatever it is for the detergent. It has saved us tons.

With my singleton (the lad never learned to latch and I got tired of pumping after 6 months) we were going through a can and a half of formula a week. And diapers..... gosh, he was a diaper king we probably went through at least 10 in a 24 hour period. I guess it all depends on how much the kiddos eat and ..... go. Man, I hadn't even thought about all this yet. I just got my 3.5 out of diapers. Ha! Guess I better start stockpiling diapers now. Time to find coupons and stalk the sales!!!

We went through 16-18 diapers per day as newbs and now probably 10-12 at 11mo old.

I'd caution against stocking up ahead of time. All my kiddos have sensitive skin and we went through a few diff brands of diapers and wipes before settling on something that didn't cause diaper rash.

We actually just use wet paper towels as wipes now. Less chemicals and cheaper.

We have amazon deliver diapers bc it's so much easier than going to the store. And the pricing is competitive w prime + subscribe and save.

I don't have much experience to offer, but wanted to say that I recently realized how much less expensive generic or store brand formula is (and probably diapers too). When I started giving DD the odd bottle of formula, I just went with what I had a coupon for which was Nestle Good Start. It's $30 a can. If you get it on sale and with a coupon it's $20 (this is in Canada). This was 3 years ago. I recently made a donation of formula to the food bank and went to Target, where their similar formula was $13.50.

My twins aren't here yet, but we switched DS to Target brand formula (generic Enfamil Gentlease) because it was cheaper than even buying from Sams Club with formula coupons. I don't remember off hand how much it was a month. If the twins need formula, we will probably buy target brand again.

For diapers, we cloth diaper DS and will do the same for the twins. We CD to save money among other reasons.

2 of the plastic canisters of Similac Sensitive---about $50 a week about 22 diapers a day as a PP had said. I buy 2 boxes a week of pampers at about $25 each. We buy wipes at COSTCO---900 for $20

@quinncat‌ we have the executive membership at Costco too...a few of our clients/coworkers chipped in for the standard (gold star) as a gift when the twins were born and we paid to upgrade. Well worth it too, when we went in they had a special going so we got a $20 gift card for being new members.

Call Enfamil and Similac, They each sent us 6 cans of formula. I don't know how far along you are but whenever we were at target(while I was pregnant) we would put $10 on a target gift card so when the babies came whenever we had to go buy formula or diapers we could use a little of the gift card to offset the cost!

Thank you ladies for all the replies! I wish I could start buying the formula and diapers now while still working; but great point about not knowing which brand will work best until they're here.
The amount of diapers they use at the beginning was quite eye opening. My hubby and I assumed it would be 5 per baby a day, lol. Boy were we way off!

We spend about 300 per month on formula but we are going to switch to the Costco brand soon so that should cut that in half. We probably spend about 75 per month in diapers and wipes as well.

We started using formula around 9 months. We use a can a day costing us about $300 a month.

I cloth diaper so I can't help you calculate the diaper cost. We use 16-20 diapers a day.

Diapers are about 16-18 a day for my almost 8 week olds. I get pampers from amazon. I would say max I spend per month is $150 on diapers/wipes/creams.

Still pumping and supplementing so I don't spend that much on formula. However since I am weaning from the pump I calculated the cost of feeding the twins strictly their neosure formula and it was a little more than $400 a month.

My girls are still really small so when they can switch off the neosure the formula cost should go down.

Overall nothing is as expensive as I thought it would be. I never used formula for DD1 so I was always under the impression that people spent $500-1000 a month on formula! So I was pleasantly surprised when I realized how much it actually costs. I thought that the container of neosure that is 13.1 ounces only made 13.1 ounces of formula! It actually makes about 80!

We switched to Costco formula when the babies were about three weeks old off of Similac Advanced. We kept the ready-to-feeds from the hospital for when we were on outings and it caused no problems. We spend $100/month on formula (6 cans).

We also get our wipes from Costco. As far as diapers go, I was stocking up the entire time I was pregnant and I am so glad I did because in 8.5 months, we had to buy two boxes, and that is only because my daughter is slow to catch up to my son. I've also had smaller sizes to donate when I didn't use the whole box. I do advise buying diapers before hand, you can always return them. We bought boxes in all brands and luckily have never had a problem. You could also buy the small packs and see how your baby reacts, then return the boxes of that brand. It was seriously the best decision we ever made.
