I feel asleep before I had the chance to post this last night. I-)
I went to see Owen for his visit yesterday and the social worker came and found me. At our Wednesday meeting, the doctor had to leave to go to a different meeting before we'd discussed discharge planning. The social worker thought it would be fine to send him home on Tuesday after the long weekend. The doctor, however, argued that the hospital was no longer doing anything for Owen and that his acuity was not high enough to meet the criteria for inpatient. So surprise! Owen is coming home today (Friday).
His visit went well and he is definitely homesick. He tried to bend the rules a few times but responded well to redirection. One thing I did notice is that he was chewing on his shirt constantly. The bottom of it was soaked. He's done this before and it's obviously anxiety, but it's hard to pinpoint what he was nervous about. It could have been about going home, being hospitalized, med related, or any number of things.
Ray is nervous about him coming home so soon. He's not convinced that anyone is ready for that. I'm a little torn. I'm partly excited and partly nervous. I've missed my boy and I'm happy to see him, but I could see this going either really well or really poorly.
In the meantime, my caseworker and I have been doing a mad dash to get his outpatient services all set up. Long weekends are hard in this type of scenario!
Tl;dr- The social worker and the doctor had a miscommunication and Owen is coming home today! Yay and yikes!
If you got through all that, you at least deserve this pic of my boy enjoying his time at the frog pond:
