those who have awesome sleepers - a feeding schedule Q

please don't roll your eyes too hard at my question!  it's legitimately bugging me.

tessa sleeps like a champ all night long, and she generally takes either 3 or 4 naps during the day if we keep a good eat-awake-sleep pattern going.  because of this, she often only gets 6 feedings in a 24 hour period of time.  she's gaining weight just fine (at least half a pound a week) so i'm not concerned about her not getting enough calories during the day...  i just feel badly she doesn't eat all that many times, and it's making me paranoid that my supply is going to drop with these infrequent feedings.  there are many days when she'll only have 2 feedings before noon.

how do you guys with great sleepers/nappers deal with the feeding portion of the day?  do you ever wake the baby to feed purely for the purpose of inserting more nursing/bottle sessions in the day?

C sleeps great at night, but not always during the day. When he's awake he eats more often to make up for going longer stretches while he's sleeping. As long as your LO is gaining on schedule,I wouldn't worry about how many feedings. They make it pretty obvious when they're hungry!

  • I know how you feel, my first LO ate every hour and a half round the clock for months. This one eats every 21/2-3 hours with one 5-6 hour stretch at night. Takes everything in me not to force feed her lol. But like you said, she is gaining weight, has a good number of wet diapers so I try not to stress about it and sounds like you should too!
  • I would not worry at all! Your supply will meet baby's demand. She will probably become more awake in the next few weeks anyway.

I think the older baby gets the more efficient they are at BF so while you think she isn't getting enough, she probably is just at a shorter amount of time. As long as she's gaining weight, I wouldn't worry at all.

  • I think you're doing fine. If she wasn't getting what she needs then she wouldn't be sleeping and happy. My twins are 7 weeks and I've noticed they are eating more less frequently. They too are awesome sleepers. They go anywhere from 3-7 hours between feedings. Longer stretches are at night and they usually have two bottles close together before.
  • I wouldn't worry. This little guy doesn't eat as much as my first did and he is still getting huge and blowing out his diapers.

It's more likely you'll ovulate and start your period with less frequent nursing. Just something to keep in mind unless you want Irish twins!
