IUI process + lack of info VENT Warning

Are your RE's telling you exactly what's going to happen in your IUI process? Or am I just not having much luck getting information from my REs?

LOVE my RE, he's super nice and really informative when I'm with him. It's the lack of knowing what to expect in future appointments or what times I need to set aside that drives me crazy.

It might be my personality, but the lack of knowing when and how many appointments or what's going to happen has been driving me bonkers. Not to mention, I don't have time to sit at the doctors office twice in one day, and wait an extra 3 hours beyond my scheduled appointment. Especially without advance notice. I've tried to talk myself off the ledge by reminding myself that kids will require that much of my attention too, so this is just practice for the future.

Is this too much to expect? Am I the only one having these problems?

Yeah, we just did two inseminations in the last 2 days, FX!

The monitoring appointments are super easy, especially since I've learned to ask for the earliest AM appointment. I just wished SOMEBODY had just provide me more info.... or something as stupid and silly as this:

IUI
1.) Call us on CD1
2.) Come in on CD3 for baseline assessment. (1&2 was literally all the nurses told me)
3.) We will schedule another monitor sess around CD 10-13.
4.) Pending on follicle size, we might have you come in every day afterwards for monitoring OR we might wait a couple days and then you come back.

"GO Time!"
1.) DH needs to come in and collect specimen the day of IUI
2.) 1 hour later, we will do the insemination
3.) We might do the same process again the very next morning

With no explanation, what if I didn't have time one day to come in for monitoring? Or what if I couldn't make time for the 2nd insemination? I guess at the end of the day, all of it is in limbo anyways, and so you just work around it. I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I feel like I just sort of learned along the way but wasn't super informed. A lot of knowing what to expect came from interacting on this board. I, too, really love my RE and the office, but I feel like there is a little they could do in informing me better and it's partly me wanting to know more and o know a more. I feel like at this point I know a little better what to ask such as scheduling etc. But so much of it is determined by how your body responds too. Some people need a few monitoring appointments.. sometimes you only need one.

ETA: Just saw your second post and you are so right. That is very basic information but that would be so helpful!!

I totally feel you, and I just have to say Thank you so much for that rundown of the IUI cycle schedule!! It's exactly what I was trying to piece together from bits and pieces of info I'd heard here, and you have just taken a burden off me by making it sound so clear and simple.

Yeah my RE doesn't like to get ahead of himself and go into too much detail...eventually they tell me everything I need to know, but I'm a planner too and I like to know the initial game plan, even if I know it could change. Like PP said, I ended up learning more of what to expect from this board.

I am the same way, needing to know what's going on. I just learned to start asking lots of questions. Thankfully, I have an awesome and patient nurse

I always feel better when I'm informed, so I usually prepare my list of questions (especially if starting a new treatment protocol). I literally do not let them leave until they've answered my questions, I just keep talking, even as they start to stand up and move toward the door, I just keep on asking!

I will say that the not knowing drives me crazy but you can't plan how you'll respond all the time, you can guess, but you don't know until you get there. I know especially with injects you end up going in A LOT. For a couple of our IUIs, I spent 5 mornings a week at the clinic, checking levels and follies, trigger, then back to back IUIs. It's frustrating for sure. I try to get as much info as I can but I also know there's only so much then know ahead of time also. But they should be giving you at least a basic run down of what to expect. I hope they can help you feel more informed, good luck!

I feel the same! If I don't ask the questions I simply will not know and normally while I am at the RE I feel a little overwhelmed.

He does have a very special nurse, who I normally phone up afterward to just run me through the steps again! My RE is extremely good, and has loads of experience, so I know I'm in good hands, but I suspect he is of a previous generation!

I'm due for my first IUI early next week, but I forgot to ask if my DH should abstain over the weekend... akward!

Glad to see I'm not completely alone. For all you ladies that have awesome informative RE's you guys are lucky!

Imma start making a list and not leaving until I get my answers trick next time! Great suggestion

@margevz101 as for DH abstaining.... I think they ideally want them to abstain for 2 day. But you also don't want too long either!
