3rd Trimester

Pre-Registering for Hospital Stay ... ?

Just curious & so I'm prepared...

How far along were you girls when you pre-registered for your hospital stay?

My hospital has this under the 3rd trimester category, I just wasn't sure how soon I needed to do this so that everything can be ready.

TIA!

  • My doctors office gave me the paper work at my last visit and told me to mail it in ASAP, then to give it a week or so and call to make sure they got it.
  • i did mine at 28 weeks.....

I called this week and they plugged me into their system, I couldn't get an appointment to do all the paperwork until the first week of June though.

  • I went at 32 weeks.  My OB started on me about getting pre-registered at my 30 and 32 week appts, so I made the appt to pre-register after I left my 32 week appt and went a day or so later.

  • I was supposed to have mine done by 30 weeks, but had to spend a couple of days in l&d for problems around 25 weeks, so they took care of it while I was there.

  • I did it last week, so 26 weeks. Saw the paperwork in the kitchen and sent it in before I lost it!
  • I plan to do that around 32 weeks.  I haven't decided which hospital I want to deliver at.  My practice uses two and I'm familiar with one (closer to where I work and grew up) but live closer to the other (which has a newer maternity wing). I'm touring both hospitals over the next two weekends and will decide after my 2nd tour.

  • i had to at 32 weeks.
  • I'm the odd-ball here.  I was given the paperwork and told to mail it in ASAP at my first appointment.  I pre-registered at about 16 or 17 weeks.
  • I did this sometime back in 2nd tri when my insurance changed to what it is now. There wasnt a timeline or info about when to or when not to.

One thing I do suggest is to print a copy of your full registration before you close out if you can do it online. I did a print screen so that this way ALL of the info entered I have printed in the event that something happens and they don't have it upon arrival and I am in labor. I also made copies of my license and insurance card as well since they will ask for that information.

I put everything on bright colored paper because they have so much white paper I didnt want it to get lost (this was suggestd to me), including our birth plan which we have several copies of.

  • omg thanks for reminding me. my hospital says to do it at 28 wks but i keep forgetting. everytime i'm on my way to the OB, which is right beside the hospital i tell DH not to let me forget to run it by there, i've forgotten for the past what....five weeks =]
  • I preregistered. The reasoning behind it was two-fold - so when I'm in labour, I don't have to wait and answer a whole bunch of questions when I'm extremely uncomfortable and in pain; and so they know how many births to expect/prepare for. Like, if more than 100 people pre-registered for the same due date, they could probably expect that they would see us all sometime that week or the next (especially if they only deal with about 2-5 births/day).

  • i did mine a few weeks ago online...then last night we had our tour at the hospital and i signed the last few consent forms...i dont think you can do it too early (if you are 3rd tri) but then again i hate waiting until the last second to do anything.
  • I did mine at about 22 weeks.  It was online and so easy, so my OB recommended doing it and just getting it out of the way.  I am glad I did b/c they sent me a lot of helpful information when it came to choosing a pediatrician.  I also had to pre-register in order to take my childbirth classes.
  • I am honestly not sure, but this has me thinking about doing it! I'll call to find out.
  • I did it last Friday at 33 weeks.

  • I didn't pre-register with DD, and how I wished I had. Sitting there filling out paperwork while I was having contractions was horrible. I just wanted to lay down, not sit in a chair and fill out paperwork. This time I have different insurance and it's a different hospital. So I asked my doctor about it and I will be pre-registering next Wednesday as well as filling out the paperwork to have my tubes tied. Apparently you have to fill out the paperwork 30 days before you have your tubes tied.

We got the paperwork from my OB practice at 20wks and was told to send it in asap. It was a good thing we did since I got admitted at 24wks for PTL. I didn't have to fill out paperwork since they had all my info already. I think I had to have it in by 34wks through.

  • I waited a bit longer than I probably should have -- I did it in my 38th week.

Call early and make an appointment for later! The pre-registration nurse is probably pretty tightly booked.
  • I've gotten an authorization # from my insurance company but i'm not sure that's what you're talking about.  I would call them first..I know I hadn't done that I would've had a $250 fee..since I did..nada.
  • I registered at my doctor's office at about 24 weeks or so.
  • I preregistered b/c it's a large hospital. ?I just sent it in last week, at 33 weeks, but my doc said do it at the beginning of 3rd tri if possible.

  • I did last week so I can have a discount on my classes.  It makes the classes almost free so worth filling out the paperwork early.

  • I handed it in at my last appt...29 weeks.  I had everything I needed to do so, and I decided to get it out of the way.
