Bedtime

Now that the weather is nicer and the days are longer, I feel that bedtime is really rushed and often later than it should be.  DH wants to go to bed early too since he has to get up early.  I feel like if I don't hurry up and get the kids in bed, he will just fall asleep or go to bed, and I won't see him.
The baby goes to bed fairly easily, but my four year old is going through a phase where he won't stay in his bed for anything.  He is always asking me to lay with him and putting the guilt trip on me.  I would love to be able to lay with him for a bit (and I do sometimes) and talk with him.  My 7 year old just wants to read with me before bed, and I find myself often telling him we can't because it's too late.  (8:30-9) and he has school the next day.
It is also the time of year when they need a bath/shower every day more often than not, so that adds to the stress.
Any tips to help me relax at bedtime, enjoy my time with the boys and get my four year old to stay in his room-and somehow manage to still see my husband?

What does you H do while you get them ready for bed?

We usually throw the kids in the bath together and chat while they play in the tub.  After they get dressed, we each take a kid and put them to bed.  We both get a chance to relax, talk, watch tv or do whatever we want after they go to bed.
He used to do the older two while I took care of the baby, but now he is pretty easy.  Sometimes we will split them up, but I do it a lot by myself too.  DH will usually shower with one or two boys or I throw them in the bath together.  Some nights he gets home later; some nights he has to mow (which takes a couple hours).  And some nights I just like to let him relax because he has had a tiring day.

We just don't go to bed that much later, if at all. If they were older and out of school, maybe.
What time do they go to bed?  We are not early risers.  And I am ok with that.  Not to mention, I think DS2 is almost outgrowing his nap.  He still naps some days, but I think it makes bedtime harder.

  • We definitely go to bed a little later because we are outside later than usual. I try to just be consistent. I usually want them in bed by 7-7:30

Upstairs at 6:30, asleep by 7:30
Wow!  Sometimes we haven't even eaten by 6:30.
