LOs with allergies

I've been using hydrocortisone cream on my LO's face for about 3 months now because it's so itchy and his hands are too but I just use Aquafor on those and CeraVe. I saw my pedi yesterday and she thought we could take him to an allergist at this point. Have any of you taken your LOs to an allergist? What was it like for you and your LO? I'm just nervous but my heart is breaking thinking of DS being itchy for even one more day. TIA!

No help here, but I'm curious to see if anyone responds! E has had congestion since he was born, with the pedi thinks is allergies. She doesn't want to refer him out until he's one, but -- ugh, that's a long time to be stuffy. I feel you, ma!

we haven't taken him in yet..we were referred once at 4 mos appt, and once at 6 mos appt. i'm just too scared to take him in. and every time i think about making an appt, things get better...

  • Glad you posted this. I've noticed that every time LO is outside for an extended period of time, she gets stuffy, snotty nose. No fever or anything and doesn't act sick, but just icky. Now she's been coughing and snotty, but again, no fever, sleeping fine. I'm taking her in again tmw so well see. Dr said it's rare for allergies to show up this early in babies, but I find it too coincidental otherwise.

No idea! Probably just another arbitrary age the pedis throw out there.

  • We had to take DD to the Pedi for pinkeye (according to daycare) a couple weeks ago. But anytime she's outside for more than an hour, her eyes get watery and red/goopy. So I'm not convinced she ever had pink eye to begin with. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to take her in before her 9 month appt or just wait until then
  • Well, we hit the dr office again today. No fever, ears look great, nothing in her lungs. We saw the NP today and she thinks it's allergies and does believe the little ones can get them. She recommended Zyrtec or Benadryl or Claritin before bed. I gave her a dose of childrens Zyrtec tonight, so well see how she does.

I hate that she has allergies bc I know just how miserable they are, but I'm just so glad she's not sick!
