What do you sing to your baby?

Re: What do you sing to your baby?

  • I don't sing to her much when she's fussy, though I probably should start. DH sings made-up nonsense to her to the tunes of whatever's in his head at the time, but he also does that when singing along with the radio anyway, lmfao.

When she's happy I'll sometimes sing "Dance Magic Dance" from Labyrinth for her. ^_^

  • I hum a lot and have been singing Dave Matthews. I'm glad to read all these posts though, I know a lot of the lullabies mentioned just hadn't thought of them.
  • Ironically, the song that seems to calm her down every time I sing it is "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette.
  • I have to admit, most of the songs I sing are lyrically inappropriate for a baby but she can't understand them anyways. One is a song by a screamo band Bring Me the Horizon taking about wolves, leaches, rats. Haha. She loves it.

I also somehow end up singing Coldplay songs. Especially "yellow" and "fix you".

Ps- has anyone realized how awesome the lyrics to "home" by Phil Phillips are? I totally cried when I heard it the other day because it's so appropriate for a parent to a child.

My LO favorites are Hush-a-bye, the one about the horses, and this odd newer song called even bugs are sleeping. Valorie also loves Frozen, when I put that on she turns her head towards the tv and smiles.

I sing indie rock songs - the national, Fiona Apple, Bon Iver. She's too young to understand the depressing lyrics ;)

Eta - my favorite is the national's Val Jester. Beautiful song if you have a little girl. Makes me think about her leaving the house one day and makes me want to cry. But in a good way?
