How To Exercise When you're Expecting

For anyone interested in doing this with me, just bought the above book by Lindsay Brin, CPT BSE and it's got great advice from a mommy of two. Just performed the first exercise (for those of us in weeks 4-13) and it was great. Not a piece of cake, but do-able, and from HOME! I hope I can maintain this throughout the 8 months left!

  • I don't know how I feel about taking exercise advice from a book. Anyone who exercises or wants to start would be better off asking their Dr. Just my two cents though. Glad you are finding it useful.

  • Yes, and apparently you DON'T do what I did and just decide to add a few little easy jog spurts into your walk...

  • My doctor told me to stay active, however I was comfortable, and to not give in to all of the bad cravings.  If I craved carrots, i could eat them until my eyes turn orange, but if its hot fudge sundaes I shouldnt eat them 3 meals a day every day.

I had a milkshake for dinner. Your doctor would not approve. LOL

  • I second PPs that you should always consult your doctor but you dont really need a special book. In a healthy pregnancy you work out mostly the same as non pregnant.

  • Thanks for the tip! Exercising regularly now will hopefully make it easier to get in shape after delivery. I enjoy yoga, but want to talk to my doctor before I continue going to classes because don't know how safe yoga is during pregnancy.

I did zumba through 32 weeks last time. It was something I had done for over a year before getting pregnant.  As I progressed, I definitely had to adapt or even sit out some moves/songs.  And certain things bothered me, like moves and such.  I am hoping to continue zumba and barre this time around.  Plus walking a lot this summer and fall.  But definitely listen to your body and pay attention to it.  It will tell you what is too much.

I'm also running 5 days a week and swimming 3 days a week and having a hard time keeping up with eating to maintain my weight. I was just joking around about the sundaes. :)

  • I take classes at the local REC center and am working in increasing my "running", aka walk/jogging distance as I signed up for a MUD run June 14th and plan on "running" a 7mi extreme cross country run the Sat before Thanksgiving. (I am NOT a runner)
With my last pregnancy I exercised until 36 1/2 weeks, until my work schedule changed and I couldn't attend my classes due to work. Up to that point I did kickboxing, cardio and strength classes. Yes, I had to modify a lot and half assed things.. I plan on doing the same, but hopefully until the end!
My doctor is really laid back and usually tells women not to start exercising, other than walking and swimming, if they haven't already been exercising.
