Baby acne

So my LO is 3 weeks tomorrow and yesterday he woke up with a face and head full of acne. Poor guy.. Any other mamas have suggestions besides washing their face and warm cloths? It's all around his eyes and now a few on his shoulders..

Thanks guys. Yeah I know just to leave it alone I just didn't know if it was helpful to keep his face washed a few times a day which it is apparently. I've noticed his hair gets really oily throughout the day also between baths so I am just gonna wash it twice a day as well. I just feel bad for him, it looks painful, his complection was flawless and then this showed up.

It's not pleasant for us as parents to look at, but it's not painful. And you really shouldn't wash his skin or hair twice a day. Oil is a good thing. It keeps the skin healthy. Just wash him once a day (if even that; babies really don't need daily baths at this age) and let his skin regulate on its own.

My sister who is an esthetician said she thinks the reason he broke out so much on his head is because his hair seems to be really oily. I've only been bathing him every other day as it is. I know he doesn't need to be bathed every day right now but oil creates more acne so some oil is good but not excess of which it looks like he's producing..

It's probably not the oil causing it, but your hormones leaving his body. It's very normal around that age there isn't much you can do for it. My first had it really bad at about one month and it lasted for a few weeks and then cleared up completely on its own.
A little Aquaphor helped a bit, but not much.

I would definitely not use hydrocortisone cream! It contains a steriod and using it can actually cause the skin to get thinner where it is used. I have only had a pediatrician tell me to use it once and that was on an older baby on an actual rash, and they said to only use it a few times for that reason.

My baby had a terrible case at 3 weeks, just cleaned with warm water as advised by my pediatrician, she is now a month old her skin looks perfect again. Andplusalso, NO just because your sister is an esthetician for adult skin doesn't mean she knows about your newborn, oil is a good thing.

No no no! Please don't wash baby's face and hair multiple times a day. Babies need that oil. You really shouldn't be bathing him more than once every other day.

It is not fun to look at but it doesn't hurt them. We didn't do anything when DS had it, it goes away pretty quickly on its own.

Please do not use hydrocortisone!!! We were told by our ped to ONLY use the mildest IF and only IF the rash takes longer than a week to go away. My DS had sores on his eyelids but they went away in a few days. We only was DS's hair once a week and sponge bath every three days or so. Their skin needs the oil. It is so fragile and sensitive that washing too much can aggravate the rash, not help it.
It's rough to look at, I know, but hold tight mama!

Oh no I don't know who mentioned hydrocortisone cream and who would put that on their newborn but that's just dumb! No way I'm only bathing him every other day and I am using a warm wash cloth to wipe his face. The dr said today that washing just his hair and face with his body wash was a good idea. The bubbles help to losses oil so that's what we are doing.
