Trying to Get Pregnant

Fertility cheese. That's totally a thing.

I've had like 50 questions for you brainy ladies over the last couple weeks but didn't want to be brash as we hadn't been properly introduced, soooo....

As a medical professional (who even spent time in REI) I have been shocked at the things I didn't know about trying to conceive. The newb blog was actually more helpful than all my textbooks lol. The hubby and I sort of went from planning on having a baby in 5 years to whipping out the IUD and HIO within one week after a family emergency. Even though we haven't been trying for long, we only have a couple months when the timing works before we have to put off having a family for another 4 years. So we're throwing everything we've got at it: preseed, temping, water, PNV, CM charting, wondfo OPK, essence of exceptionally fertile armadillo,  lots of cheese...

How do you spell BSC again?

Re: Fertility cheese. That's totally a thing.

  • where can you get this essence of exceptionally fertile armadillo... and wheres the stats? ;)

Good luck and I hope your stay here is short.

  • I had the same plan last year. I hope it works for you, but be ready for it to not happen right away. Especially if you havent already been charting/temping/timing/etc. Instead of me getting pregnant on the first go-round (even with charting), a close friend got KU right away. So good luck, but don't bet on anything.

  • @Sjpmcfmd And I was just riding the "maybe-we-just-made-a-baby-morning-sex high." I'll be starting a year of research soon so even if sh*t goes down and I have to go on bed rest or something, it's all good. Plus I'll be at home during the early months. There won't be a time like that again for a few years. If I were to get knocked up, hubby would be a study at home dad during those years, so even tho I'll be busy we'll be able to manage
  • I'm confused by your timing/response but wish you well regardless!
  • We were a "study at home dad" family. And its stressful. Just FYI. Doable, but not easy. Im really glad that time is over.
  • I had a good morning and I think all that oxytocin gave the wrong impression. I have too many friends and loved ones going through infertilty, so I am painfully aware that things rarely go according to plan. Since I'm a worst-case-scenario kind of girl we're starting off trying everything but the kitchen sink right off the bat. As for our timing: I am in medical training so if I got pregnant and something went wrong and I had to go on bed rest or, god forbid, spend months in the NICU, there is no option for me to take that time off. However, in a few months I'll be putting myl training on hold for a year to do clinical research, which I can do from home. So I could stay home on bed rest if I needed to, and be home to breast feed/ play peekaboo for the first few months the baby is born. After my research year, my husband can spend the next few years at home, while working on passing his qualifying exams to keep him sharp/ sane. I have been a nanny and I know how tough it can be. So we have discussed this ad nauseum for the last three and a half years to be sure that it's doable and the best decision for our family
  • Yeah, maybe you're just not wording it right or something, but it doesn't sound like you're ready. You're trying to fit the baby into your schedule instead of the other way around. And saying things like "I just don't have the option of time off" is almost a guarantee you'll need to (Murphy's law anyone?). But seriously, if it came down to it and your kid needed you, you would take the time off. Be prepared for your career plans to be derailed for a while, or be prepared for a lot of child care expenses. Personally, you sound way too busy for a baby right now. If I may, what are you two studying to become?

  • Correct. He wont be working, the studying is for him to do when he wants. And we plan on having a sitter for relief/sanity time. I'm sorry, I didn't realize my intro would be bad news bears. I'll leave you ladies alone to enjoy this sunny May morning.
  • @SenoritaCupcake, no worries, we're happy you're in the group and trying and we wish you luck, etc. I just kinda hear myself in the "I can get pregnant THIS month and no other month" thing and I know that it sucks when it doesnt happen. I've got friends who struggled with infertility too, but get ready for your own jealousy if you dont get KU right away and one of your super-close friends does. It's like magic how that happens.

  • Um, I really don't understand why you are GBCBing OP. Like, no one was even remotely rude. Just asking questions to try and understand what you were saying. And anyone who disagreed did so very gently. Why are you getting a butthurt?

Huh? I'm so confused by this. Are you saying you had anal sex?
And my friend is in med school, about to start his internship and his wife is expecting their first. It's extremely stressful for them. Think long and hard about it before you have a baby in the middle of all that.

  • I appreciate all the concern for my mental well being and that of my future children. I have thought long and hard and discussed my decision with medical students, residents, and physicians that I respect, including my program director. And Yes, it was an anal sex joke. Now about the cheese...

That's cool, my husband makes really good homemade Mac and Cheese. I'm glad you figured out anal doesn't make babies! That's a painful lesson to learn.

  • You cannot work from home and take care of a child at the same time. You do realize you will still have to have child care for that time, correct?

    --------

Not entirely true. I managed fine when DD was a baby - much harder now that she's older

Screw this cheese BS. I'm so in love with Mint Oreos the last few days. It is heading in the same direction of my hotdog fetish of last week. And that is the most usefu thing I have to contribute to this thread.

  • My man and I word opposite shifts. I work usually 8 to 5pm and my man works 10 to 7 am. Enough time for me to get the car then go to work. He usually sleeps while Adrian takes a nap.
