JFF: What does everybody do?

Current: I work at AT&T in the call center. I've been here for 7 years. I could care less about the job, but I have lots of vacation, seniority, great benefits and the perfect schedule. Makes it hard to leave.

Dream: If I could do anything, I'd go back to school to be an RN. It's not in the budget right now, but hopefully at some point.

So what about you?? What is your current job and what job would you want if you could do anything?

Re: JFF: What does everybody do?

  • Current: I'm a Human Capital Management Consultant - I have no idea what that means.  I implement HRIS systems for new clients.  So really, I'm an Implementation Specialist but the HCMC title sounds fancy!

Dream: Something in the music industry - producer, roadie, backup singer, I don't care.  I am happy when there is music and would love to spend my day with it.

  • Current:  I work in insurance. Its just something that has DH moved around would follow me and always be in demand. I really don't like it. I wanted to get out of it eventually but here I am again! I get treated really well so I can't complain there.
Dream:  DH just has SO many school loans from flight school I don't see myself ever going back to get us more. But I would love to write. I'd also like to finish my psych degree!

  • I'm a private tutor. I specialize in upper level high school math. I am also writing a couple books.

I will mostly stay home when LO comes. And keep writing. Hopefully I'll be able to tutor a few times a week, too, bc I love it and it's great money. And that sounds dreamy to me.

  • It's so neat to see the wide array of professions we have on here!
  • Current: corporate lawyer

    Dream job: grade school teacher
  • I manage fundraising events for a non-profit. I like my job but work with crazy people.

I would love to do the same thing but be my own boss. The other thing I have always wanted to do it run my own store or flip houses. I don't like having a boss.

Currently I test software used for energy efficiency programs for home energy audits.  Lame job, but I've maxed out our vacation time which is awesome, and my salary is awesome considering what I do all day.

Dream.... Real far out there dream is SAHM... but since I pay the bills more realistic dream is to be in instructional technology or career counselling.

Dream: I'd love to be a SAHM once little one is here, but we'll have way too many loans for that to be a reality. Hopefully I can find a well paying job and can work only 3 days a week. Might be dreaming over here.....
  • Current: corporate lawyer

Dream: still figuring it out, but some days I think I would love to own by own small business

Lol depending on where you want to practice, yes you are dreaming. PA's and NP's work like dogs! Rewarding, but intense. Plus part time child care is even more difficult smh.

    I'm a RN.

Dream job? Real Estate, flip homes.

Current and dream: Stay at home mom. I'm lucky to have my dream job, although every job is a job at the end of the day so it's hard work. Nonetheless, there is nothing I'd rather do.

Before my son, I was in personal auto/home insurance claims for almost 10 years.

Current: Statistician. I used to love it but I'm on the most boring, least challenging project of my career and I'm bored out of my mind. Coasting until after maternity leave, hopefully I can find something interesting after I come back. Hopefully...

Dream Job: It varies, some days I wish I were a L&D nurse or Neonatal NP but then I remember how much I like being able to work from home whenever I feel like it lol. I think my current job would be my dream job if I could work in an area I'm interested in and worked with more social people. I literally go days without talking to a soul. Makes those boring days even worse!

I work in a smallish hardware store doing a little bit if everything. I'm halfway between management and not. I do the books when my boss is off, I cashier, I help customers on the floor and I help put freight away.

My dream has always been to be a stay at home mom. Luckily it's one DH shares for me and this baby couldn't be coming at a better time, so I'll be leaving my job to take care of baby.

My dream for an outside the house job would be something with math, but I haven't done enough research to know what.
  • Current:  Financial analyst at a hedge fund for the past 8 years.  Feels like I've been here forever.

Dream:  SAHM...but with the cost of everything in this area, it's just not possible...unless DH gets a HUGE raise!

Alternate Dream:  I want to play with puppies all day, can that be a real job?  I'd also like to be a video game tester.

Do you cover a specific industry?  I've consulted to multiple hedge funds as an industry/subject matter expert and have considered making a career change, but most hedge fund or PE analysts I know work 16 hour days, and that's not really appealing right now!

Current: SAHM.  Before that I taught high school English for 6 years.

Dream:  I wouldn't want to do anything but SAH while my kids are little.  If kiddos and DH could come with me, I'd love to be a travel/food writer.  Once our kids are in school I'd like to work in higher education student affairs.

It really depends what you do, I usually work 8-5:30 or 6, and no weekends...but my superiors work longer hours.  I mostly manage all the accounts for a certain group of traders (reconciling accounts, calculating P&L, and things of that nature), and I also do some work in derivative confirmation and settlements.  Maybe the title they gave me isn't exactly fitting, but they don't really know what else to call us, haha.

  • I am a Marketing Analyst..,. If I could do anything, I would probably start my own event planning company.  I love the details and creative aspects that go into it.  A very good friend of mine and I were planning to start up our own business back in January. things had to take a back seat with a baby on the way. But maybe someday :)

  • Current: Right now I'm just a stay at home wife, husband is in the military. Before I was a nanny for the past 7 years. It seems like nobody here is looking for a nanny that fits within our schedule! Boo! I'm completely OK with being a SAHM though! I'm only 4 credits shy of a degree in Early Childhood Education and now I get to apply it to my own children!

My dream job: Once we're done with this whole Navy business, I want to run a preschool/day care from home. I don't want it to be "watching children in my home" but instead really want to convert a walk out basement into a preschool setting. I absolutely love teaching young children! It's been my dream for awhile now, and I just have to wait a few more years to finally have it!

Gotcha!  The analysts I consult to are the ones making/recommending investment decisions and strategies.  DH is a trader at a hedge fund and I think the analogous title for your role is back or middle office there.  Your title is much better! :)

I consider myself a Sahm but I work one day a month as an RN for the office I used to work FT in and I teach dog training classes (agility and rally, but used to do family dog classes). Although I don't teach while pregnant. It's the best of both worlds, work enough to get out of the house but still get to stay home, so it is my dream job(s)!

  • Current Job: SAHW. I enjoy it. Before getting KU I would volunteer one day a week at church. Since the first tri I have not been back.

Dream job: Do what I am doing now. Maybe at least one more kiddo to the family. I would also love some adult interaction during the week. When H gets home I want to chat with him and he just wants to veg out.

  • Current: I'm an RN working in post partum/nursery areas and I love what I do (if not always where I do it)

Dream job: either a forensic pathologist or an epidemiologist working for WHO traveling
to remote locations throughout the world discovering new diseases and stuff. I actually went back to school and was working head on towards premed, but when I really started examining my priorities, I decided if I had a choice between being a Dr or a mommy, I would rather be a mommy. So, I quit premed, took a 2nd job to save up for another round of IVF and now I'm working on my BSN.

  • Current: I am a Collections Officer.  It's okay... I will be a SAHM when LO gets here.

Dream Job: To be a psychologist specializing in PTSD Research with the VA
