I use the medela pump in style. I basically just cracked it open and started pumping. Today I found the instruction booklet with all the recommended boiling/washing and I am feeling pretty foolish! Are you all following the instructions exactly? How much wiggle room are you giving yourselves? I am thinking about buying the steam bags to save time since I am pumping 3+ times a day and already feel like I have no time to rinse the parts, let alone boil them!
Re: Boiling/washing pump parts?
But basically the consensus is that boiling is really only necessary prior to the first use and cleaning with hot water after each use should be sufficient. You can even put the pump parts in the fridge during the day in between and just was them at night or throw them in the dishwasher.
I can't tell from your post if you mean that you just started pumping without washing or sterilizing anything. If that's the case, I might ditch that batch. I'm by no means a clean freak but I wouldn't feed LO out of anything that wasn't cleaned first. That's just me. Maybe others will weigh in on that.
I just wash with hot soapy water with a tiny bit of bleach in the water.
I use the sterilizing bags once every few days.
I have only serialized once (after first use) so far wIth the steam bag but I should probably do it more often.
