I am running so far behind so I am sorry that it has taken me this long to get my sons birth story out there.
April 30th:
I had fell asleep and woke up at 2am on the couch. This was a normal event lately because I could no longer get into my king size bed without being in a lot of pelvic pain. My husband had just went to bed and wanted to make sure the plans for the day were set.
I had a schedualed NST that morning at 8am so I was going to be a trooper and stay up. I had been tracking my BP the past few weeks and had noticed it was bouncing all over the place so I wanted to make sure to say something to the doctor about it. I knew it was also my last week for all my testing and was excited to see if I could actually make it to 39 weeks.
So I settled up on the couch with the laptop to catch up on some big bang theory as well as play a little bingo. It was about 5:30am when I felt a sudden gush and took off to the bathroom. I thought he might have kicked my bladder causing me to lose control or something. I went change clothes and settled back on the couch. As you can tell I was really wanting to watch some big bang theory lol
Then the gush happened again and I knew something was completely wrong at this point. I ran back to the bathroom grabbing towels and then trying to figure out how to get my husband awake. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be cause the next thing I knew I was loaded up in the car and being driven to the nearest hospital.
Once there they comfirmed my water had ruptured and started hooking me up to everything. I wasn't even feeling contractions but I was dilated to a one. Then I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to another hospital because nobody around here would deliever any babies before 39 weeks and I was 36weeks. So I got to enjoy a very bumpy 2hr drive to Vanderbilt.
I got there about 10am and told the doctor I wanted a c-section right away. I was told no that they weren't going to do that, they would only do a c-section if going vaginal failed. The reason behind the c-section was because they had already prepared me that he was going to be over 7lbs already and probably with broad shoulders due to GD. True I was very scared of something going wrong and panic very easily.
So at this point at 10am I was only dialated to a 2 and everyone was showing up. My husband was still at the house packing our bags and making arrangments for our dogs. We were not prepared at all.
So the next hours were crazy being checked every 3hrs and finding hardly any progress of course by the time I had reached 4 cms I was having horrible back labor. So they thought me walking around would help out, that was not the case cause with each contraction I lost control of my legs. By this time my husband had gotten there and I begged for my epidural. I love LOVE that epidural it helped a lot when they upped me on pitocin. Honestly this was some of the best sleep I ever got as well. Aside the every 2-3 hrs checks and rolling me side to side.
May 1st:
While sleeping on and off between checks I was starving. It had been offically 24hrs since I had ate anything only was allowed water. Plus I had now been in labor for a full 24hrs as well. He had made no progress moving down and was still kicking and moving under my ribs. At 10am they finally said I was fully dialated so they wanted me to start pushing.
They had me pushing for a whole 3hrs when finally a doctor came in to see what the hold up was. Turns out he was not only stuck on my pelvic bone causing him to have some swelling but he was also turned side ways. So after 3 more doctors coming in to get opinions one finally said you are having a c-section. I was so ready to having this done and over with.
So I was wheeled into surgery where the upped dose of the epidural had cause me to start shaking. It was crazy I couldn't control it at all and was afraid I was going to shake off the table. Then I heard his cry and saw him through a small opening and I fell in love.
Soon the had him cleaned up and my husband was holding him while they were fixing me up. Then they left the room and what happened next was super scary. I blacked out.
I had woke up enough to scream in pain from the staples as they were trying to tell me it was presure when in fact it was pain. I blacked out again and woke up being wheeled into my room where my mom sat crying.
Apparently I had been in sugery for almost 3hrs and suffered a large amount of blood loss.
However it was all forogtten when they brough my son into the room so I could finally hold him. After holding him I don't remember much else about the day. They kept me pretty well drugged up on piticin as well as other thing for the pain.
I couldn't ask for a better boy who has brought me nothing but joy. Being a FTM I'm loving every cry and smile. Thanks for reading about Connor's birth after 36hrs of labor. Weighing in at 8.13lbs, 20 inches long and a head full of hair.
