Now that our babies are coming in fast and furious, I'm just curious to know what's YOUR birth story? Is it similar to any of your LOs' birth stories?
I'm a twin and was born at 7 months (not sure how many weeks exactly). I weighed a little over 3lbs and my brother was 4lbs. My LO is already almost 35 weeks and weighed 4.5lbs at 32 weeks, so he will have a completely different story from mine.
We were born in the Caribbean and this was 33 years ago, so we stayed two months in what was their equvialent of their NICU, which I can imagaine was not very advanced at the time. I've always known that I was in an incubator and had to have a blood transfusion (I actually know the nice police officer who donated the blood). My Mom says that we had all kinds of tubes coming out of us. She also says that we could fit into a shoe box. I'm sure it must have been very scary for my parents.
Because of this, I feel a special connection to all our little June preemies. And I know in my heart that they are going to be okay. My brother and I are both pretty healthy and had no complications growing up. I'm 5'9 and he towers over me, so no one could tell by looking at us what we went through coming into this world.
Re: What's YOUR birth story?
My parents never found out with either me or my sister what sex we were going to be, so when I was born, my dad had a bad view I guess and said "OMG IT'S A BOY!" and the midwife said "uh, no, that's the cord, look again". My mom said that he was still happy, but he got about the biggest tomboy daughter he could get anyway. And I've pretty much been a daddy's girl my whole life. He and I look practically identical, to the point that someone knew who I was after not seeing me for 16 years (the last time he had seen me I was about 18 months old and I was 18 at the time)
Baby #1: expected June 2014
I was a RCS at about 39 weeks I think. My oldest sibling wasn't head down so my mom had a CS with her and then RCS were her only option for future pregnancies.
DD and this baby have both been head down pretty early on thankfully, and I'm hoping to have a vaginal delivery again.
My mom likes to tell me know how quick (or long) her labor was with me -- only about 1.5 hours -- but was really 2 months plus 1.5 hours.
I was 2 full weeks late, and my mom labored for about 36 hours before they finally did a C-section. I was 9.5 pounds and healthy.
That's about all I got. That and all she wanted to eat for the 24 hours before labor were Italian subs!
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

For my brother and sister (twins), my mom had to beg her doctor to give her a c-section three weeks before her due date (she had been on bed rest already for months and since she is a tiny woman to begin with, she was pretty miserable with all that baby inside her!). The doctor agreed only after my mom promised to never tell anyone that it was an elective c-section, that's how taboo they were back in the day. Even at three weeks early, both twins were close to seven pounds each, can't imagine how big they would have been if she went to term!

Dad likely stopped to have a cigarette and grab a coca-cola thinking it was going to be awhile since with my older brother it was 36 hours. Since there were no cell phones, he had no idea and was freaking out when he got to L&D and they told him my mom wasn't there.
My mom was induced with me a month early due to toxemia. I was born within about 8 hours of them arriving at the hospital (her third pregnancy and delivery) and was 8lbs11oz. I had to go to the NICU because I was early and had jaundice. My parents say whenever they came down to see me or feed me the nurses had me out playing with me because I was about 3lbs bigger than all the other babies so they liked having me there. They also couldn't fit me in any incubators because I was so long.
When I came out I had super dark skin and a ton of black hair. My parents joked that I looked like Juanita, a family friend, but the nurses didn't know they were kidding so they wrote Juanita LastName on my isolette card.

My mom waited too long to go to the hospital and by the time she got there, it was too late for an epidural. She wasn't too thrilled about that and still complains about how she had to birth me med-free to this day lol I was 7lbs 10oz. Born at 2:58pm, which was just in time for her to watch General Hospital while I was whisked away to be put under some special light for my jaundice (I have olive skin and still think I'm a bit yellow!).

On the topic of family birth stories, I asked my mom the other day if her mom ever mentioned anything about her deliveries to her.... (My mom and sister both had pretty good deliveries, but they look exactly alike, and so far my pregnancy has been pretty different from theirs, but I look exactly like my grandma, same build, same health issues, etc. so I figured I'd ask about her). And all my mother said was "She didn't tell me much....except that the doctor did something to her akin to an "episiotomy gone terribly wrong", even your grandfather could tell you about that."
What. The. Fuck.
SO GLAD I am not delivering in the 40's/50's. My poor poor grandma
I was born the day before my due date. The story I've heard is that my mom went into labor on a Sunday morning and my dad stopped to get something to eat at the gas station on the way to the hospital while my mom was contracting in the car! Ha! I was born after only 4 hours of labor but I'm not sure how long my mom pushed. I weighed 8lbs7oz! I'd say my mom deserved an easy labor after what she went through with my sister!
What I do know is that my edd was May 23ish and I was born June 1. My mom had us all vaginal without any meds. I weighed 8#8oz. I was her first girl, 4th child.
We are similar in the fact that our first 3 children have been boys. (I'm not having anymore to find out if my 4th would be a girl).
My mom was with me in the delivery room for my second child and she said she thinks it was easier for her to deliver than me.
Oh and she said she only had horrible cramps with me... And I've had horrible cramps with all my kids.
I'm the first born and I was 3 days early, my friend was also the first born and she was 6 days early, another friend I have was born 4 weeks early and he was over 6 pounds at birth. My sister was a week late. So who knows.
Baby #1: expected June 2014
After 36 hours of labor and only 2 cm they took me c section. It was her due date when water broke the day after when I was born.
I was enduced at 36 weeks due to severe pre e. labored for 24 hours and only got to a 2 as well. We were both in distress and had an emergency c section that ended up with general anesthesia.
All at the same hospital.
My experiences have very fortunately not been similar. Knock on wood really hard. My mom has more strength than anyone I know because of the things she survived.
Pipsqueak born 6/9/14
My sister's kids were all born earlier, so I think I've already gone the longest.
My Mom said she just felt "really uncomfortable" the day before I was born. Eventually it got worse that night so she went to the hospital. The nurses told her to go home because she couldn't possibly be in labor. She came back an hour or so later and I was born after a few pushes. Apparently my Mom wanted an epidural but was told, "Oh honey, it's too late for that. It's time to push."
My daughter was born a few days early following a very favorable induction. We were moving and we couldn't wait.
