New Math

So I delivered a precious, perfect, happy, healthy 9.1 pound baby boy 11 days ago. Regretfully curious, I decided to get on the scale to see how much I lost in delivery. I figured, 9 pound baby, 3-4 pound placenta, a few pounds in amniotic fluid....I'd probably be down 12-15 pounds. So I weighed. And I was down 6.

What?!!

I regretfully did the same thing as you. Maybe it's all the fluid they pump in with the IV? Either way I'm avoiding the scale again til my 6wk PP visit and even then I may not look!

I came home heavier than I went in due to all the fluid retention, give it a few weeks
  • I get that it takes several weeks....I went on to the scale knowing that, but it was still a surprise. I was much younger when I had my first two, but I immediately dropped 18 pounds in delivery and lost all pregnancy weight plus some by 3 weeks PP. Difference between pregnancy in 20s vs 30s....

I saw math and new I had to come in. But alas, I was disappointed.

I am avoiding the scale. Can't help it. I just don't want to know...

I know with my first I was pumped with pounds of fluids before my c/s.  Wait a few days, by then all the IV fluids will be gone. Don't worry, you will be shocked at how quickly the first 15 (ish) lbs come off.

I am sure I was probably up 6 pounds.  My legs and feet were tree trunks.
  • I came home with extra sexy sausage feet.

Fluid, fluid, fluid. About 10 days after my c-section, I lost 5 lbs overnight...3 nights in a row.

  • I came home and stepped on the scale the same weight as I went in at. Had a c section so they pumped me full of fluids that plus the not having a BM for 5 days meant I stayed that weight for the first 5 days. The second my bodily functions returned to normal the weight started dropping off 5-10 lbs inthe first three days. But my baby is a milk monster so I'm guessing it's my body trying to keep up with her.

I haven't been curious about my weight, but I didn't have a bm for a solid week post cs and I was still really puffy from all of the fluids until about 10days pp. Like pp have said, it all started falling off about then. Don't worry :) it just takes a little time.
